We stayed here for 7 nights in November - the first 2 days there was a lot of mist and fog so no views, but once it cleared it was lovely. The drive to the hotel from the airport took a good hour, the roads are VERY windy and steep, but it is worth it. The car park at the hotel itself is very small, we parked in the (free) public car park just up the road (which is very close to the hotel side entrance) which was fine.

The receptionist spoke very good English and was helpful. I was worried when I read reviews on TripAdvisor about having to pay for the spa - but she told us that as we were staying 7 nights the spa was included in the price! Otherwise it's about 20 Euros a person!

We spend most of our time walking in the mountains, so it was a good location from that point of view. Though we did venture down to the coast a couple of times, which was an arduous drive!

Dinner in the hotel was really good, though a little pricy. We discovered after eating there on the first night that unless you're really, really hungry there's no need to have a starter - they ply you with a bread roll (does cost a Euro or so extra - and one night we didn't have a bread roll but they still charged us - it seemed petty to complain for 3 Euros!) and even bring you an appetiser! (Which is free/included). The mains are huge and we never had enough room for dessert. The wine list is good.

We ate in the restaurant three times and it was consistently good. The menu was the same all week though. The waiting staff were all very nice and appreciated the little Spanish that we spoke - though they did speak some English themselves.

One evening we ventured to the Yolanda restaurant over the road from the hotel - the food was nice but actually turned out to be more expensive than the hotel!!!! They didn't give us a food menu but verbally suggested their special dish, which was probably a mistake! Also the staff were closing up and literally had their coats on before we'd quite finished - though to be fair in the guidebook it said they closed around 8 - but you think they would've been a bit more patient with us!

The other two cafe/restaurants over the road never seemed to be open in the evening, so dinner choices are a bit limited. (One afternoon about 5pm we did sit down on the outside chairs at El Refugio in anticipation of having a beer, but the staff ignored us and simply closed the door! Needless to say we didn't bother trying to go back).

Anyway, back to the Parador! The Spa was really nice - we went on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. We didn't book for Tuesday and Wednesday, so when we turned up on Thursday we were surprised to be asked if we'd booked - the hotel starts to get busy in the run up to the weekend. Fortunately there was space for us to go into the spa that evening (it did seem busier than the previous nights). There's a weights and fitness room too, if only we'd remembered our PE kit........

We had a deal where breakfast was included in the room rate. The breakfast was amazing - so much choice; fruit, yoghurt, juices, cereals, cakes, doughnuts, cold meats, cheese, bread, eggs etc.... And the coffee is very strong!

The hotel room itself was perfectly comfortable, a nice size with a private balcony looking out over the view. The bathroom had two sinks which was a bit of a novelty! All very clean and spacious. The bed was two twins, (pushed together) but it did say when we booked it that double beds were subject to availability so we weren't worried. There's only a couple of English TV channels but to be fair you shouldn't be on holiday watching TV anyway! (And Grey's Anatomy in Spanish was quite amusing).

We had to leave at 3am on our last night to catch a 7am flight, the hotel kindly put us together a picnic bag each for us to have for breakfast, which was a nice touch.

Overall we had a really good experience at this hotel, though I can see if you only stay a couple of nights and have to pay for the spa the cost could rack up.

This hotel is located in the mountain area of Gran Canaria. It's perfect if you like to go hiking on the mountain paths. One day we went to Tejeda and back on foot, another day we walked to Teror and the last day we walked to Artenara. The views on these walks were terrific. It's not as hot in Cruz de Tejeda as it is down by the coast. This facilitates walking a lot. The mountain paths are, most of them, clearly signposted, but there are few places where you could get lost. In the reception of the hotel, you can ask for maps of different walks. These are free. The hotel itself has nice large rooms which are properly cleaned. The reception staff speaks good english, the staff in the restaurant speaks some english. The view from our room was nice, and you could hear the wind in the pine trees when sitting on the terrace. The breakfast was excellent with lots of things to choose from (youghurts, breads, lots of pastries like croissants and donuts, hot dishes, cold cuts, vegetables, juices...). The four course dinner was somstimes very good (liked the duck, for instance), sometimes average. We had half-board. Cruz de Tejeda itself is a miniscule place with only a few houses, don't expect wild nightlife or good shopping. There were a few small shops close to the hotel (selling snacks and souvernires). It was cheaper to buy mineral water there than at the hotel. The hotel had a spa with sauna, steam room, indoor and outdoor pool, jacuzzi, various showers and massaging water jets. All in all a very nice, calm hotel if you like to go hiking in the mountains.

Booked this parador for two nights in our one week stay at Gran Canaria, because of a very positive experience llast year with the parador in Tenerife. InTenerife the environment and setting was certainly as spectacular and special (view on the Teide vulcanoand its surrounding moonlike landscape), and in addition the atmosphere in the hotel was very relaxed. Nothing of that in the parador in Cruz de Tejeda,; we found the atmosphere cold, in particular in the dining (and breakgast) room where very pompuous classic music was played all the time, and guests were conversating tongue in cheek or not at all: it really felt like being at a meal after a funeral. Rooms are OK, but the nice views on the mountains and valleys are hindered by trees: the famous roque del Nublo was not visible from our room as trees were standing in our sight. Like other reviewers already mentioned, the restaurant prices are high, while the quality of the food isn't (indeed paella wasn't freshly cooked but composed of defrosted bits and pieces). Regretted to have tranferred from our cosy hotel at the saeside to this place, as there we got better service, atmosphere and food for less than half op the price as in the parador. One final note: after dinner the place is completely dead and dull. The bar and restaurant in front of the Parador close at 7 pm and there are no others in miles around. Only entertzinment is the spa, but at a surcharge of 25€/person!

if you like nice views, you will find it here.Beautifull balconies at every room. Nice walking area as well, but you will need a good condition. Room itself is up to standards. As well is the bathroom. You will need a car to come here.

Downside is the restaurant. Very big and unpersonal. the chef likes 'a lot on the plate'. It is overcomplicated, could be much nicer if the chef would keep it fresh and simple. Have eaten much nicer in Gran Canaria for half the price.

Visited in early July as a break in a fortnights holiday mainly on the beaches; summer low season is an understatement; only three couples in entire hotel . Service consequently exceptional. Room has magnificaent view over towards valleys and distant coast, lights of Tenerife visible at night. Makes sure you get one on upper of two floors in this wing. Roads not for nervous drivers but surface good and very little traffic.
Drive up from southern coast is scenic but best views from the higher circuits and waymarked paths closer to Tejede. Meals proved excellent if choice on menu a little limited. Breakfasts exceptional.
Spa access is only once per day so consider this if planning a relaxing visit, it wasn't clear on booking so we negotiated additional entry!.

Room Tip: Best views from the upper of the two floors in main wing.
