We stayed in this Parador Nacional early August 2012. Since it was the low season, it was almost empty something which made our stay extremely quite and relaxing: the second day, we were alone in the Spa!
The views over Roque Nublo from the terrace of the room were just fantastic, at least the first day (we were unlucky the second day since the "calima" impeded us to benefit from the amazing view).
The staff was very friendly and the food of the usual high quality in Paradores. The hotel has been recently renovated and everything is branded new.
Just one thing that should be improved (but does not depend from the hotel): the road signals. We found the only traffic signal indicating "Parador" 200 meters from the hotel!!! This is not very helpful specially if your GSM decides to bring you through the smallest roads and villages of the island (if you realize that this is happening or might happen, just switch if off before you get stuck in the middle of nowhere).

we stayed in hotel for two nights in march.the hotel location was perfect for us,on a hill in the middle of the island.from the rooms there are wonderful views.rooms are nice, well kept and with balcony.staff was very friendly.
the breakfast was lovely, one of the best i have ever had.the restaurant is but little pricey, but the food was really good.
spa is small but the heated infinity pool in the wood is superb after whole day discovering island, but 25euros for entry seems to be too much.
in overall,very good,but pricey.
and i cant forget a free parking

I visited the hotel in May 2012. Its a beautiful property, very good quality high end .. friendly helpful staff, speculator heated infinity pool and great spa.
The hotel is a great base to explore and experience the real Gran Canaria, offering walks, hiking, horse riding and cycling.
I experience some traditional Gran Canaria tapas dishes for lunch and they were very tasty
(try the mojo sauce with the potatoes and goats cheese)

Stayed four days in March. The setting is stunning with beautiful views over the valley from all rooms. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. We found all the staff very friendly and helpful but don't expect everyone to speak English. Breakfasts were excellent set in the dining room which also overlooks the beautiful view. Dinners a bit pretentious and the same menu every night which could be difficult. They also have a bar area serving snacks and small meals such as sandwiches which they rather unfortunately call the 'cafeteria' which doesn't give the right impression in English. In fact they could make more of it with a better variety of food and better decor. We hardly ever saw anyone in there. We fancied a bowl of soup but it wasn't on the menu, however the barman went specially to the restaurant and brought some sop up from there for us which was very helpful and greatly appreciated. The car park is sort of outside the hotel down some steps next to the public carpark, but you can unload beside the main entrance if you can get in. They shut the gates in the evening and i saw a few people struggling up from the car park with their cases. Very well worth a visit.

Large room, large bathroom with two basins, balcony with views over the mountains and electric shutters; what more is there to say? This hotel exceeded our expectations for the price we paid and the fact that nearly all the rooms have stunning views is a definite bonus. OK, so one of the girls on reception was not that friendly and I had to complain three times about the Wi-Fi not working before she made a call and got it fixed but you wonder where they manage to get staff at all in this remote area. The rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent (with a special treat for chocolate lovers) and we wished we had eaten there in the evenings - tip: if you go across the road to the inn for dinner, ask about the menu of the day. For 12 - 15 Euros it seems a bit churlish to complain about the main courses as the soups and deserts were good. If you like mountains and walking it is ideal; don't go there for sunbathing.
As a lot has been said about this hotel I would like to mention something about driving on the Island and directions to the hotel. Yes it is mountainous but the roads in Gran Canaria are to a very high standard with excellent sign posting. So, to get to the hotel from the airport firstly get a map with road numbers (we didn't and went slightly wrong); look for the motorway sign as you leave the car park and take GC-1 North in the direction of Las Palmas. After about 10 - 15 minutes exit GC-3 in the direction of Tafira (which you by-pass), join GC-4 to Santa Brigida then GC-15 all the way to Cruz de Tejeda via San Mateo. Cruz de Tejeda comes up 15 mins before Tejeda and you will see the castle-like tower of the hotel. Car Park is next to the bus car park - don't hit the right hand bollard getting in - we weren't the first!

Room Tip: Nearly every room has mountain views but some may be a little close to the reception/restaurant area...

We booked the Parador de Cruz de Tejeda to avoid the tourist traps of the south coast. The whole place is really well kept and traditional. Staff are friendly, especially Estrella in the restaurant at breakfast time, as well as a couple of the women on reception. The free Wi-Fi and newspapers were much appreciated and great for practising our Spanish. On a clear day the views are beautiful and popular with hikers.

Room
Very large room that was kept clean. Our room (102) was underneath the restaurant and terrace, so we could hear chairs being scraped in the morning: not great if you want a bit of a lie-in! Ask for one of the higher-numbered rooms to get away from the restaurant and for clearer views across the valley, because ours was a bit obscured by pine trees. The housekeeping, while perfectly acceptable, could be improved by making some small changes: on several days they left behind the empty shampoo bottles and tissue boxes. We also often left our towels on the rails to re-use them, but these were always left as they were: it would have been nice if they had hung them back neatly for us. I know these sound like small things, but it's the little touches that make the great hotels stand out from the good ones.

Food
Breakfast was included in our room rate, and there was generally a good selection of food, including local specialities as well as standard fare such as cereals, eggs, bread, meat and cheese. There were even pancakes on pancake day, which was a nice touch. We didn't eat in the restaurant for lunch or dinner: it looked lovely but the food was almost too cheffy: you couldn't get something simple while we were there (like a no-frills pasta dish or plain steak). We did, however, use the Cafeteria/bar, which served food in the evenings as well as during the day. This does have a good (if expensive) selection of salads, baguettes, burgers and tortillas. They also serve nice coffee and cakes during the day.

Location
We booked this because we didn't want to be surrounded by tourists, and we got our wish, which was wonderful. However, even though it is 'just' 40-50km from the coast, it takes a good hour-and-a-half along the narrow, winding but very well-maintained mountain roads to get there (Puerto de Mogan and Puerto de las Nieves are both well worth the drive). The views as you go are stunning, but it's tiring for the driver, especially at night when the fog draws in and visibility gets close to zero at times. Don't get us wrong, we enjoyed it, but it wasn't quite as relaxing as we'd planned!

Climate
We knew it would be cooler in the mountains and were prepared for this: it was around 5 degrees at night, and about half the mornings were foggy (drive down to the coast, and we had sunshine and 20+ degrees - take your summer clothes to change into!). On the days it was clear, the views were stunning across the valley.

Things to do nearby
Tejeda itself is beautiful and definitely worth a visit; call in to the Déjate Llevar for amazing hot chocolate and friendly service. Also head to the market in San Mateo on Sundays: a real locals market, none of the cheap tat that you get in the markets in the tourist traps. They also have a live band that plays music to which all the locals dance! The market outside the hotel is worth a look, though it's largely tourist-oriented and they do hassle you a bit, but we had a lovely chat in Spanish with Ramón, who runs the leather goods stall at the very end of the market and wasn't pushy at all: he even re-dyed the belt I bought from him because I wanted it in black rather than red! Brilliant service!

Room Tip: Ask for a room number higher than 13 to get a better view and be away from the restaurant.

We wanted a relaxing and luxurious spa break in the mountains. We spent four nights away from it all, and had a most enjoyable time. It was our third Parador stay, and like the two before, we felt we were being treated as royalty. We spent one of our days in the spa, sampling the Turkish baths and sauna. The heated swimming pool is half inside, half outside - a great experience. We each booked a hot stone massage treatment, which was fantastically relaxing. There is also a small gym to get the circulation going. The restaurant has lovely local food - it's well worth dining there every night given the variety of dishes on offer. Our room overlooked the amazing Caldera de Tejeda. The parador staff were at all times most helpful.

There are some great hikes around the Parador, though we were a little unlucky with the November weather - clouds and mist much of the time. The hamlet of Tejeda is worth a visit, and further afield we recommend the botanical garden, the basilica at Teror and the charming seaside town of Puerto de las Nieves.
