Hotel Rural Fonda de la Tea
Ranked #1 of 1 Tejeda B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 3, 2010

...La Fonda is one! Fina and her team of Eva and Rosa made our stay a memorable one. 'Friendly', 'efficient', 'helpful' do not really do justice to their collective positive and pro-active service...from advice on local walks and weather forecasts to the provision of wine glasses when Rosa spotted a bottle of wine in the room!!...Excellent service. As an earlier reviewer suggested the meals we had in the Hotel and the local Tea (it means old wood) restuarant were a notch above others in the town, but we also enjoyed the more basic but very tasty fare in Timagada..and the divine pastries from the Dulceria were off the scale! Little or no English is spoken by the staff (Fina is the most practised)and Tejeda is well-off the normal tourist track and a wonderful melting spot of a place for meeting our European cousins. Norway, Sweden, Germany and Holland were well represented by some lovely people. Our thanks for their company and that of Fina and her team. A lovely experience.

The Fonda de la Tea in the quiet mountain village of Tejeda was completed a couple of years ago after an extensive reconstruction by its proud, enthusiastic, and attentive owner Fina.

The traditional stone facing and wooden balconies make the Fonda seem as though it had been there for ever, but the well appointed rooms, en-suite bathrooms, flat screen TV’s and internet connections bring you back into the 21st century.

After a good night’s sleep the copious breakfasts which used the best of local products, or home cooking set you up for the day.

There are several restaurants and bars in the village which fill up at lunchtimes on the weekends with islanders from the coast and offer tasty local dishes in a rustic atmosphere. However the best dining in the village to be had is in the Fonda when Fina does the cooking!

We stayed for a week when the temperature unexpectedly dropped to 6 - 8 degrees in the afternoon for 3 days. None of the restaurants in the village had any apparent heating, and kept their doors open to welcome diners. The sight of staff and customers alike in sweaters, cagoules, hats and even gloves was a memorable comic experience. Unfortunately the breakfast room in the Fonda was equally chilling in the mornings but was a good introduction to the day's hiking.

We can only thank Fina and her staff for the enjoyable stay and for all her help dealing with rental car problems
