Palm Island puts you in the middle of nature at its best. It is a place to go to sit on the beach and watch the world sail by. It is a place to relax, read, nap, snorkel, and go for walks, swims and boat rides. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.

The trip there is something of an adventure. You land in Barbados and a representative of the Island greets you on the tarmac. They help expedite you through immigration and customs in Barbados. It is a nice touch. The plane ride to the island is fun. You ride in a is a small twin engine plane. One you land on Union Island they expedite you through immigration and pick you up in a golf cart for the 5 minute ride to the dock. It is a 10 minute boat ride to the Island where a wonderful greeting complete with a rum punch awaits.

From the beach the vistas are incredible. You can look at 5 or 6 other islands and stare all day at the clear turquoise waters. The Island is fun to hike and climb. The views from the various peaks are wonderful. You will see lots of wildlife; iguanas, birds, and marine life. The birds can be a pest at lunch and breakfast but it is small price to pay for the setting.

The resort is not fancy, no phones, TVs in the rooms and Internet is limited to 2 areas. The grounds are beautifully maintained and are nicely done. There is no room service but the rooms are spacious, have a large wonderful bathroom, large bedroom and offer a nice porch to look out over the water. They have nicely stocked wet bars if you want a drink in your room.

Food there is a little uneven. The Caribbean barbeque had a nice salad bar but did not offer any main courses that we liked. Most meals were good and some were excellent. You won't go hungry but if you are going away only for fine dining this might not be you. We wound up eating breakfast and dinner in the main dinning area and having lunch in by the dock. It broke up the routine and was fun.

The staff was wonderful. There is a new Manager Chris, who has plans for the resort. He is a good listener and is quite sincere in making improvements. Anthony, Carla, Colbert, Madonna, Curlene, Johnny, Richie, and Baywatch, all deserve special praise. We found that you can ask for almost anything within reason and they will bend over to accommodate you. The staff is warm, caring, accommodating, and kind.

We did the Yannis cruise to the Tobago Cays. I don't think I would do this with them again. We went to 3 different locations with them. The first was a very pretty beach but we had that on Palm. Then they took us to a nice place to snorkel which was okay not great. I have been told there is much better snorkeling in the Cays. Finally they took us to a place to swim with the turtles which was fun but brief. The crew did not offer very much information about each place or the marine life. Subsequently we heard from another guest that they took a Water Taxi to the Tobago Cays and saw more marine life and turtles for less money and got more information.

I think we will go back to Palm Island again which is unusual for us as we like to explore. The setting is incredible and I found myself awestruck many times a day. If they make the resort even better that would be nice but it really is about the beach, water, climate and views.

We just returned from this exotic island paradise. Upon arrival by the resort water taxi we were greeted with a tropical rum punch and escorted to our beautiful beachfront room. The employees on Palm Island were very friendly especially Anthony & Chris great job guy's. This spot is the perfect place for R&R. Very quiet with only 2 dozen couples at best. Great food and incredible white sandy beaches. All in all we had a wonderful time. You absolutely have to take a day trip to Tobago Cays and swim with the turtles. The only negatives we could think of was the bed was too firm for us and the crickets kept us awake at night. This vacation spot is best suited for those seeking quiet and relaxation, no night life to speak of but they did have some local entertainment every other night. We will definately return to Palm Island.

There are better islands in the Caribbean to try before this one.

Of course it is lovely on the beach and in the sea but those parts the hotel is not in charge of. The rooms (27) are large and comfortable although a bit dim to read a book by. Good bathroom.
The food is Ok but was much better at Treasure Beach on Barbados.

On arrival you are given 5 Dislaimers to sign. If you have booked through a holiday company they are probably unenforceable as they are too late, the contarct has been made, and I object to giving them on principal. Then you go out with the sail captain as a passenger on his Hobiecat and have to sign another one; why, he is the expert. The sail captain cannot read a diary and so doesn't always turn up !
The birds fly into the open sided restauarnt and try to steal your breakfast and leave a mess on your chair. Netting is now being put up to try and fix this problem.
The internet wi-fi has technical issues. You get a signal but cannot reach the outside world with it. More than one customer had the same problem.
You are reliant on the hotel to arrange your boat transfer back to Union Island to catch your lcoal flight to Barbados. They take you off the island over 2 hours before the flight. It only takes 8 minutes by boat and 5 by golf cart to reach the airport ( size of a large house ). There is nothing to do in the airport. You will need a book; there is a good large selection left by other customers at the hotel. The manager was unhelpful when I asked him to rearrange.
For what you are spenidng I would suggest trying somewhere else.

Stayed at the resort for 7 nights with my husband. This was our first caribbean vacation and truly enjoyed it. A representative from the resort was waiting for us when we arrived in Barbados and had everything ready for our airport transfer to Union Island. The boat ride from UI to Palm Island was fairly short. The accommodations and service from the staff exceeded our expectations. We even got a sparkling wine/champagne when they found out that it was my husband's birthday that week. All the staff went out of their way to accommodate our needs, very friendly and wonderful people. The food was great (the chef was very accommodating) and the service was impeccable. We had an amazing time exploring the island with the resort's bicycle (free of charge)...the beach was pristine and beautiful. We also met a wonderful Canadian couple that own one of the private villas. The resident doctor was also very friendly and helpful when my husband suffered an ear infection. I tried the spa and the service was wonderful and price very reasonable. The trip to Tobago Cays was absolutely great which was arranged by one of the staff members. We enjoyed the hobie cat ride. We really liked the fact that it was a private island and only resort guests and villa owners were allowed to be in the island. I could go on and on about this resort, overall, it was a wonderful vacation and the entire staff made our stay so memorable. We would definitely go back.

We stayed 2 weeks in The Grenadines our favorite destination in the Caribean, the first at PSV (Fantastic!). then transfered to Palm Island for the second week, All seemed well when the team met us at the dock, we had a room on the beach, air conditioned everything you need etc, went for a swim in pool, very cold! met some great people, good barman great cocktails free.......getting better all the time until we sat down for our fist meal. The food was so bad that I could not eat it, I had the Chicken pepper pot (undescribable boiled bits of chicken wings with a sauce poured on that was cold) I sent this back and asked for the Chicken curry, big mistake the chicken was so tough i could not cut it. We sat witht the people we had met that day, they had been there several days and commented that the food was a little hit and miss (they were being polite as i noticed they had not eaten much of their food either). I commented on the food to the staff and agreed to try again, breakfast big disappointment, limited local fruit (comments like its out of season dont hack it as I had just come from PSV (5 miles away) and they seemed to be able to get Paw Paw, Mango, pineapple and Advacado etc). For lunch i finally found something I could eat a Chicken Roti (Local Chicken curry wrapper) washed down with Banana Daquri's (better). Afternoon tea (Paste sandwiches? could not face them paste went out of fashion 30 years ago). Dinner again this time the BBQ, to be fair rain forced the move to the bar area, food overcooked and ruined rubbery lobster (This is in season and on PSV every meal has Lobster done beautifully if you wish it!!). I guess you know where this is going, we called PSV and asked them if we could go back for the last 4 days, luckily they had one of the beach front rooms available so we told an incredulous Chris we were leaving. I guess Palm have their repeat guests who can overlook the food quality I and my partner can't. The staff were very helpfull location good, accomodation nice all let down by lousy food.

I really cannot find the words to describe Palm Island, it was by far the best holiday we have had in the Carribean.
On arrival at Union Island (after a hair raising internal flight! I am not good flyer at the best of times!), a little golf buggy collects you and whisks you to the hotels own boat to hop across to Palm Island where you are met by the management with a rum punch! No check in until the morning which is great.
We had a beachfront room (no 15) and it was lovely, the air con was absolutely fine but the lightiing in the bathroom was a bit dim...oh well - who needs make up when you have a tan!
The food and drink were delicious, and the staff are ALL fantastic. The bar staff know what you're drinking before you do! (thank you Johnny, Margaret and the wonderful Anthony!). Watch out for George the HUGE iguana that visits you in the Royal Palm restaurant..he is lovely once you get to know him...!
We had a picnic (hammock number 3 - the best one) which was worth every penny, and also dinner near the heart tree (so romantic - thank you Ianti), we used the bikes daily and the spa was small but perfectly formed. The gym is basic, but we were the only ones in it for the whole time we were there!
We did book a private charter with Yannis ($750!!!) which was a bit of a disaster, as it was late, an unfinished boat, no food or drink on board etc etc BUT the Yannis management and Chris the resort manager refunded the trip in full with no questions so I cannot complain. I am certain that this was a one off bad experiance, and those who went on the day charter ($95) had a great time.
We really can find little to fault about Palm Island - I wish they would tidy up the rest of the island a bit as it looks quite unloved in some areas, but the resort itself was immaculate and the new manager (Chris) is outstanding - clearly well trained, ambitious and experianced and my gut feeling is that any little issues will be quickly sorted out (he has promised new lighting in the bathrooms so I am going to have to go back to check!)
We will definately return, and hope that it doesn't really change as this Palm paradise is perfect just the way it is.
