Yesterday we left Palm Island after a 7 night stay, and would like to thank all the staff at the resort for the most welcoming, friendly service we have received in all of our Caribbean stays. We had a wonderful, relaxing week.
The accommodation (room 16) with beach view was excellent. We appreciated the mosquito spray which was provided in our room and replenished when necessary. Because of this we had very few bites. We also felt the fridge stocked with soft drinks was a very good touch.
We all felt the food was outstanding. There was always a great selection for each meal with something for everyone. We enjoyed the lovely cocktails every day and thought the wine was very good too.
Alex and Anthony (the director and resort manager) always made a point of stopping to speak to us when passing asking if there was anything they could do for us.
I am not a person that writes critiques for places we have visited but the Palm Island location and package is fantastic compared to other less individual experiences we have received in Barbados and St Lucia.
Without doubt we will be “returnees“to the island in the next eighteen months and hope nothing changes.

Room Tip: Sea view well worth the extra

I have a continuing love affair with the Caribbean , not least to escape the depressing grey of an English winter! I chose this holiday for the remoteness & novelty of the last leg of the journey on a small plane from Barbados to Union Island. Terrific ! I also chose to have a Beachfront room to sleep & wake to the sound of the sea ! I watched the sunsets, fed the birds & watched Iguana from my patio.
The staff were wonderful & treated me so well, having accepted that I was on my own ....
The beach , steps from my room was fraught, sand flies & mosquito are a reality, so while bug spray for room & body is provided I would advise taking a higher Deer product & additional mosquito coils.
The pool was breezy & quiet.
I took one boat trip on the Scaramouche, the schooner made famous in "Pirates of the Caribbean " great !
The food was good. The location stunning.
Would I return? Not sure, but so glad I visited !

This was just what we were looking for - an unpretentious relaxed couple-centric resort with plenty of gorgeous beaches, picturesque ocean views, and friendly unobtrusive staff. All the information provided explained the entire process of getting to the island for our first visit. As advertised it was part of the adventure! (check out youtube for videos of plane landings into Union Island). The food was always good - the fish and local specialties were the best choices. The snorkeling at the island itself was decent with some nice sites between the two boat docks. We took a trip on the Yannis (little smoother ride than the Pink Lady) to Mayreau and Tobago Cays which was well worth it - sea turtles and nice reef snorkeling. Guests ranged in age but were a great balance of light conversation at the bar with privacy most of the rest of the time. Took a ride over to Union Island as well for a few hours of walking through town and lunch. Highly recommend this destination for peace and quiet and disconnecting from the real world.

Room Tip: Stayed in the Island Lofts - these were perfect for a more secluded experience while still waking to...

An amazing location with a Caribbean feel in terms of a relaxed atmosphere and a beach to die for. We previously visited islands in the Indian Ocean and were not quite sure what to expect of the Caribbean; it was our first time in the region. Undoubtedly the pace of the resort is slower and service far more relaxed but that fitted in perfectly with the style of the resort, its a perfect location with relaxed, friendly service as opposed to formal and polished. The food was always of a good variety and again didn't try to be too pretentious, the lobster on the beach BBQ was superb with a wide variety of cocktails to enjoy with it.

There are two decent areas to snorkel with a variety of fish to spot, although the trips to Tobago Cays and Mopion Buzz offer great chances to swim amongst the coral - and the pink lady staff made the trips that bit more special with such a friendly approach.

All in all a great week, total relaxation, time just stood still, just a shame it couldn't stand still for longer than 7 days!

Room Tip: The pink lady trip to Mopion Buzz was an amazing experience and the snorkelling on the trip was exce...

Went for our anniversary. Never experienced any place like it! Getting there was very interesting. Took a plane to a plane to a crush man ride to a small boat to the island! While getting riding the cushman to the boat down the dirt road we we behind the local fire department in there pickup truck with their very big guns! Yikes! Island was nice. Very small and secluded. Staff was nice. Food was good. Highlight of the trip for me was the hatching of the baby turtles that swarmed the tiny island meeting area. I along with the other guests wound up saving them and helping to release them into the ocean. They got disoriented and mistook the island lights for the moonlight. Meet some very nice people from all different walks of life. Local island doctor is also the local island artist. Great work. Careful what excursions you go on. My husband and I went on The Pink Lady and he almost drown. Not really a supervised excursion. Stick with enjoying the island you are better off. You can snorkel right off their beach or borrow a kayak. These were fun. Only down side is around 5 pm at night sand flies come out and it is awful. Won the the bid for the trip thru the YMCA so it was worth it no matter what. Got to put some worthy children thru camp with the money I spent. Oh and I recommend signing up for one of the cooking classes the offer. The iguanas that come to eat with you can be as small as a foot or as big as three feet. They love when you share your fruit and veggies!

Room Tip: Any room on the island is a good one

This was our third stay on Palm Island and it never disappoints! The excitement rises as you come into land on Union Island, get taken on a golf buggy to the quay and then on the launch to beautiful Palm Island to be greeted with a welcome cocktail and friendly faces.
There were a few changes since our last visit and we did a couple of new things during our stay but Palm Island is a 'do as much or as little as you like' place and my mind switches off from the moment I step ashore!
One of the new experiences was going to the Doc's house to hear his tales of the island. It was fascinating to learn about the development of Palm Island from someone who obviously loves it so well.
Crab racing was new too - light-hearted and low key entertainment raising a few dollars for local charities. You can join in or not, up to you.
We also took a trip to Happy Island with some newly made 'Palm' friends. It should probably carry a health warning, but was great fun and you certainly return feeling 'very happy' after Jonti's hospitality, his rums are generous!
New bikes since our last visit, still basic but perfect for a trip round the island and getting a breeze through your hair. Just love it!
We enjoyed walking out to the jetty each evening and waiting for the rays to come by - majestic creatures and worth the wait to see.
Meals were good, relaxed and enjoyable. We particularly enjoyed a lobster meal at the Sunset restaurant prepared by chef Bacca - you are a legend! Lunches here are also good sitting at a table on the sand makes for a most relaxing and enjoyable lunchtime.
The people who come to stay on Palm Island seem like minded. We met some lovely people who made our stay even more fun.
We are total converts to this beautiful island and will return without a doubt. Our one disappointment was we had planned a trip on the Pink Lady but unfortunately her motor needed replacing during our stay, but it makes for a perfect excuse (not that we need one) to go again.
Thank you to all the wonderful staff on Palm Island you truly make a holiday here worthwhile. We can't wait to return again soon.

Room Tip: They are all lovely rooms!

We’ve just made a repeat visit to Palm Island – and once again enjoyed our stay.
The island proved easier to reach this time around, as the plane flew directly from Barbados to Union Island (instead of making several other stops first). Then it was a short ferry ride.

Palm is only 1.5 miles around, and has several elevated vantage points where you can see all the surrounding islands in the turquoise sea. The circuit is ideal for an early morning run or a late afternoon stroll. And it’s a bonus when you encounter some of the ferocious-looking, but harmless, iguanas that live there. You’ll rarely see another person on the beaches other than where the hotel is located.

The rooms are not luxurious, but very large and well-appointed, and even the garden rooms are just a few paces away from the sea front. They are well equipped with tea, coffee and cold drinks.

Palm Island is a small hotel with fewer than 50 rooms and two restaurants and bars, so you get to know other guests very quickly. And as most people are very sociable we enjoyed some good company.

Staff members are very friendly and helpful – led by the excellent new manager Katy, along with her deputy Anton. The food is also of a reasonable standard – although if you’re staying for more than a week you may find it a bit repetitive.

We had emailed asking for the room we’d had last time and received a reply acknowledging our request. However, on our arrival were taken to a different one. When we asked why, we were told the one we requested was occupied. But we later found out that it was given to a couple of first time visitors who had arrived an hour after us. So, our request had been ignored and we seemed to have been fobbed off with an untrue story – which is not a good way to treat return visitors.

We did the ‘Yannis’ catamaran trip to Tobago Cays – although, disappointingly, it was hours shorter than it was supposed to be due to late arrival of passengers. It’s worth the short ride to Union Island and the few shops there. We don't know why they keep the nurse sharks in captivity in a shallow pool at the anchorage, though. It seemed against the ethos that prevails these days.

We had a glitch on settling the bill as the person checking us out had evidently never encountered a dollar cash card before. The result was that the transaction was fouled up and, to cut a long story short, our holiday money was frozen for 21 days – which was unfortunate as we were travelling to another island. So we paid with a conventional credit card.

So, room and card glitches apart, it was a good return visit. In summary: don’t go to Palm Island for luxury (even if standards are pretty good). Go for fun. It’s that kind of place.
