“Excellent day out”

Very enjoyable, good commentary, very friendly and knowledgeable people. There are 3 different mail runs - next time we are back holidaying in the area we will definitely do one of the other trips.

“absolutely recommendable regardless of weather”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

Accompanying Jim and Peggy on the Pelorus Mail Boat for a day was one of the highlights during my 10weeks of Travel in NZ.
Peggy picked us up around 7ish in the morning in Picton and we took the scenic drive towards Havelock where the boat starts. The drive itself was beautiful. Because it has been rainy, cloudy and cold the day before, it was only the two of us on the mailboat. However, the 'bad' weather didnt bother our adventure at all! While delivering the mail in the Pelorus Sounds we saw Seals, Mussel Farms and even Orcas. The whole day was absolutely amazing and Jim and Peggy were awesome!

Thanks for the great day!

“great day out”
Reviewed April 18, 2014

A great way to relax, left the wharf at 9.30am and didn't get back until 5.30pm, a perfect day on the water. Stopped for hot chocolate at lunch time at a lovely spot and you could also buy food. Highly recommended.

“This is a "must-do!!"”
Reviewed April 8, 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed the full-day Tuesday trip delivering mail and supplies to the remote areas of Pelorus Sound which have no roads access. This was a memorable trip greatly enhanced by the skipper Jim Baillie and his colleague Penny and their knowledge of the area, the people and the wild-life. Our weather was rather overcast, but the scenery is still spectacular.
Teas and coffee are available through the journey and you have the choice of taking your own lunch or ordering it at a lodge on the journey. We were also given lots of information on the extensive mussel farming in Pelorus Sound and also went alongside a harvester vessel to see it at close quarters.
We have previously been on a similar enjoyable trip on Marlborough Sound which was a half-day trip but this full-day option out of Havelock is excellent and highly-recommended.

“Gem in the North of the South Island”
Reviewed April 4, 2014

We stumbled on this as we had an extra day. It turns out to be the part of our 3 week trip in the South Island that we talk about more than any other--including an overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound. The skipper, Jim, and his mate Penny are very personable and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The trip itself is amazing. The scenery and views are gorgeous, the narration and discussion of the area's history, people, and nature is very well done. One of the best and most fascinating parts of the trip is seeing and hearing the stories of the people you are delivering mail to. I'd recommend this trip as just as interesting, and maybe moreso, than the standard day cruises to Doubtful or Milford Sound.
