Owner description: An all day cruise through the beautiful Marlborough Sounds delivering mail and groceries to remote and secluded properties. The Pelorus Sound is the largest of the Sounds and the Mail Boat is a lifeline to the people living in this boat access wonderland. You will hear a great selection of stories about life in the sounds, its history, and how the mail has been delivered like this since 1918.You will also get to experience the marine and bird life in the area including 5 types of Dolphins, Australasian Gannets, rare Shags, Seals and many more.A full Mussel Farm tour is also included and there is usually an opportunity to see the Mussel Boats operating during harvesting or seeding. We will stop off at a local lodge and passengers are able to buy lunch or bring your own lunch and come with us to a local farm for a tour. You will also be able to enjoy a bush walk or swim if you would like. We are now operating 7 days in summer, which is November to April.

A scenic and beautiful boat trip which not only let's you see the spectacular sounds scenery but also gives you a greater understanding of the hardy souls who live in the sounds who rely on this mail boat service for mail and supplies. A great day out with Jim and Penny, who were knowledgeable, kind and accommodating hosts. Well worth doing.

I really enjoyed it. The mailboat is very steady. It is very easy for me to get boat sick, but I did not feel it at all on the boat. The boat is very clean. You can see the Malborough Sounds, hills and the sea. The host is an English gentle man with patient assistant. The introduction of the attractions is detailed. It is a little pity that I was just in the boat for one and a half hour and I had to get off at one bay. But the price $40 is a little bit expensive, I think. Totally, very cool experience. First time in the boat, enjoy the sunshine, wind and sea!!!

Had a great full day. The views were great and Jim and Penny made the trip much more by giving great commentary when needed and free to answer questions and chat to guests.
It is good to feel you are also ensuring the lifeline to the remote sights is maintained. No dolphins for us but still saw sunbathing blue penguins and the boat slowed for photos.

What a great trip. We were booked for the Thursday but the weather turned, we rung to see if we could postpone to the Friday and Jim was so accommodating, saying he didn't want us to have a bad experience. Friday was a great day, we had a pod of dolphins hanging round the boat, and visitng the locals, including pet dogs and Kunekune pigs! Jim and Penny were funny, friendly and so knowledgable about the area, a great team. You have't seen the sounds until you been on this trip.
