God, what gem. I spent the weekend here with a couple of good friends - a few days away from work and the demands of family/little children. Duncan, Tom, and Norma were the best hosts ever - friendly, attentive, and generous. We stayed in the yurt, which was beautiful, cosy, and affordable. Norma's meals were delicious (with veges fresh from the organic garden). And the hot tub under the stars was divine. There are various accommodation options and some lovely touches like an outdoor fire pit and pizza oven. We boated in with the lovely Del from Havelock Water Taxis (I think that's the name) and walked out, but I'll definitely back (probably with the kids next time) to walk the full trail. On the Track Lodge hits the perfect balance of 'just enough luxury but not too expensive'. Please don't ever go too upmarket! This is great for people doing the walk who also want a bit of time off from cooking and a bit more privacy and sleep than in the DOC huts. Thanks for the blissful stay!

What sets this place apart from everything we've experienced is the hospitality. The hosts go out of their way to make your stay a comfortable and enjoyable experience. From assisting with carrying your luggage to finding a replacement for something you've forgotten. Their generosity has no end.
Needless to say, the accommodation is quaint, extremely comfortable and picturesque.

Room Tip: Consider the railway carriage. It sounds a little odd. It is. But it's worth it. A small lounge, a double bed and your own ensuite. Bliss.

My husband and I recently spent the evening here and were warmly welcomed by Tom, Duncan and Norma. The cabins are beautifully presented and the food served by Norma was excellent and plenty of it. This family have certainly upgraded this accomodation and anyone wanting a little break doing the hike or just visiting for a romantic getaway, this is a great spot to do it. They have a varied range of facilities and rooms available as you can use this as a backpackers or fully catered with en-suite rooms.

Room Tip: Ensuite is in the rail carriage but the beds are doubles. Some cabins are very close to the bathrooms if this is an issue but the decked pathways are excellent.

Thank you for a wonderful couple of days at Nydia Bay. Tom, Duncan, Norma and Ron were wonderful hosts. The lodge setting is welcome, relaxing and beautiful. We enjoyed the tea and cake on arrival after our walk from Kaiuma. We enjoyed kayaking and the tramway walk. Norma's cooking is superb. I highly recommend the lunch and dinner options. You will not regret it. I'm still hoping Norma will put me at the top of her list for when she does a cook book. Our group stayed in the train carriage which was very nice. our group also used an upstairs cabin and downstairs cabin. All with wonderful reports and we all slept well on the comfortable beds. The hot tub was a treat as well. But do take insect repellant. Those mossies were plentiful.
We walked out to Duncan Bay after staying two nights. A very restful and wonderful time. The hosts were such warm genuine people. Thank you for sharing your paradise with us. We will be back.

Room Tip: Train carriage has ensuite, but smaller beds. Cabins all comfortable. But all look good, clean and comfortable.

We stayed here a couple of weeks ago with friends, it is a beautiful spot with lovely welcoming hosts. The accommodation is spotless and very comfortable(we stayed in the train carriage but all the choices looked great). The food was excellent and although you can carry in your own and use the kitchen, we were so glad we had opted to enjoy a very tasty dinner and breakfast. We will definitely be back and thoroughly recommend staying here.
