“Awesome!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2014

We stayed 3 nights at the Blue Moon Lodge, and we just loved it. The Lodge is very clean and tidy and the Hosts Shane&Asha are absolutely lovely. No matter what, they are happy to help wherever they can. We also did the Kajak-Tour with Shane and that was great fun. :-) So, thanks a lot again for the great time! :-)

Shane and Asha, the owners, made us feel very much at home in our double ensuite room on the first floor of the hostel. They booked the green shell mussel cruise (highly recommended) for us and we also enjoyed an inflatable kayak tour down the Wakamarina River. Shane and Phil were our guides down the river which was an awesome ride through rapids and waterfalls. They take extra care for safety and kindly accommodated my needs with regard to getting to the river. I walk with a brace due to polio and Phil simply threw me over his shoulder and carried me! Great fun! The hostel is kept very clean and the kitchen is well equipped. Phil later even taught me how to weave New Zealand flax into flowers. Asha gave us a great recommendation for a short walk along the estuary. A very memorable two days in NZ!

If you're looking for a backpacker priced accomodation then BlueMoon Lodge is great. Clean, friendly and in the heart of Havelock. For my husband and I we signed up for the whole package, a night's stay and a kayak trip down the Pelorus River that these guys run. Our goal was to have a break from routine, from the busy life of parenting four children and running businesses and come home refreshed. Mission Accomplished thanks to Shane and Asher the proprieters. We had a lovely picnic type lunch by the river - homemade. And then a 3 hour canoe trip down the Pelorus river - swimming, walk to waterfall and spotting trout. We had lots of laughs and soaked up the incredibly beautiful scenery. Before the canoe trip we had a wander round beautiful Havelock, so quaint and pretty and great food/coffee spots. Go for it if you are contemplating a stay. Enjoy!

Room Tip: If you don't want a backpacker type experience I think they have rooms with ensuites that are bi...

Nowhere else (yet) have I been invited to join a shared dinner with the owner and other guests before having even paid for the room.
Shane and Asha, the owners, make you feel at home in their clean, comfortable and very well equipped hostel. Our double room was tidy, spacious, quiet and sensibly-priced. The kitchen and bathrooms are spick and span.
To top it off, Shane gave us directions to a short walk at the end of which were the most amazing glow worms I have seen in New Zealand.

This is a good place in a fantastic location. It has a well equipped, spacious kitchen (with espresso machine) and the room we stayed in was clean and simple although bathrooms and toilets seemed a bit thin on the ground. A sample of the local mussels was cooked up for everyone to try at 6.30pm, local knowledge was freely shared and the affable owner runs boat trips. I also got offered the use of a hair dryer! It felt well managed yet relaxed and friedly.

I have stayed at Blue moon several times and are always amazed at the passion with which Shane and Asha (the owners) give to their guests. Always friendly and helpful . Their prices are very affordable, the rooms are lovely and clean and have nice comfy beds..The kitchen and Bathrooms always clean and tidy with plenty of room to move in.. Next time Im hoping to take a friend and paddle down the Pelorus River in one of their Kanoes at Pelorus Eco Adventures, with Shane.

Room Tip: Rooms 8 and 9 are my best picks but need to go to main house for Bathrooms, not a problem as its onl...

Awesomely cheap place to stay. Dorm rooms are only $20, and when the owner said on the phone that would get us the "cheapest and cleanest bed in New Zealand," he wasn't far off the mark. The dorm beds and comfortable, clean, and there wasn't any squeaking at all when anyone moved around.

The owner, Shane, is one of the coolest blokes I've ever met. Genuine, chilled out, and has made the place a wicked place to stay, giving people on a budget a great place for a good nights sleep and a welcoming atmosphere.

There is also a free hot tub, and although we missed it on the day apparently there are mussels that get cooked up for guests as well.

Absolutely loved it, will be staying here next time we hit Havelock.
