“Sort of a nightmare, but United was helpful”
Review of United Airlines

Reviewed May 18, 2019

We ran into connection problems because of a two-hour delay in Belize City due to bad weather. This caused us to miss our connecting flight (Westjet) and when we got to Houston, we were told that someone would talk to us once we got through American Customs. This did not happen, and we scuttled between terminals trying to get some help. Wetjet told us by phone it was a United problem and the customer service desk we finally found told us that we were re-booked on a United Flight to Calgary that we almost missed because we did not have a cell phone. Then that flight was delayed because the ground crews refused to work in a thunderstorm (fair enough), and we missed our connecting flight in Calgary, but United ponied up for a hotel room and breakfast, so I have to give them some credit for that..

United - Been a member forever. Service average at best. Have to buy food on flight. Best to bring your own. The in flight food is terrible. United just gets you to your destination safely. Many other airlines offer nicer employees, food, and service. Still use there "miles" but just expect average in flight service.

Upon checking 2 1/2 hours before our flight we learned that we were not listed on the manifest, we were stuck in Rome!

Evidently the confirmation number and email received were not an indicator of certainty.

We learned the people working at the United desk were not United employees and only processed paper, but could not fix anything.

We found a supervisor that could get us to Washington DC but that was it (we live in California)! Of course we took it.

Once again I was on the phone with United’s customer service team - which is an oxymoron! The person had no idea what happened and made it sound like I was at fault, even though I had a confirmation number and email! She finally found us a way home.

We ended up sitting in DC four four hours but finally made it home!

The Boeing 777 we flew on was scary.

Seats had no padding, the speaker system was so bad you could not hear announcements, the arm rests and tray tables were loose and floppy. It made me question the safety of the aircraft.

1. Flight was delayed 3 hours due to an issue - we sat on tarmac
2. No complimentary drinks offered or vouchers passed out
3. Upon arrival in Toronto and having missed our connection, customer service was horrible and it was clear the employees do not receive training. As an example, it took almost three hours for a group of them to figure out how to set us up in a hotel with transportation. Travel and food vouchers only covered part of expense.
4. United staff incompetence cost us 24 hours of our vacation and over $1,000 in lost excursions.
