“Average really and on par with most US airlines I have flown”
Review of United Airlines

Reviewed October 20, 2017

This was my first flight with United in many years and nothing has improved. After a great flight from Auckland to San Francisco on Air New Zealand, this United Airlines flight of 6 hours is a real "come down to reality". Basic okay economy service and staff - no entertainment screen. Absolutly average.

The flight was ok, despite a sudden stop when the plane prepared for takeoff, never explained what happened.
But the worst were the flight attendants, two off them were pretty rude with the passengers (not just me) and not helpfull at all, thay looked really pissed at something but no idea what, but then they relaxed reading a magazine and partially blocked with the cart the passage to the toilet.

First, there were the schedule changes. We had gotten our tickets months before to be sure to get the schedule we needed - that didn't matter they changed the times anyway, more than once. Changed flight numbers. We can't change a thing after the contract, but they can do whatever. Even changed the day of our return. Then, on the day of our flight, after we were seated, there was a delay at the gate due to mechanical problems. Do you mean to say, they weren't aware of this problem before we were boarded? We sat for an hour, stuffed into our seats, before ever leaving the gate. On the return trip, the plane was delayed 2 hours, but we didn't find out until we got to the airport. In this age of technology, where they have my phone and email, they aren't able to contact us. So we waited 2 hours in the airport (and actually it was 2.5 hours by the time they took off). Then over the public address system, the person at the gate told us we'd have to board quickly because if we didn't the pilots would be illegal. She didn't just say it once, but several times. So now it's our fault that they had a delay? I'm glad our lives are so important that they are pushing their pilots to the very edges of what is safe. Then, after a stop over, the last leg of the journey was way under booked (most of the plane was empty). I asked if we could move to the row in front of us that was empty because there was more leg room. After all we went through with them you'd think they'd want to do whatever to make our experience better. But no - those seats (which were the emergency exit rows) remained empty because we weren't allowed to move. At that point I would have payed for the upgrade, we were so tired from all the delays. And they weren't very nice about it -talk about "friendly skies." Where do they get these flight attendants? None seemed to be friendly or happy we were flying with them. Then when we picked up our baggage, someone had decided to go through our stuff without zipping the bag back up and we had clothes hanging out of the bag. I've had great experiences with Alaska - I'm sticking with them. United used to be a classy airline back in the day. After all the bad press dragging the man out of the plane, I figured they'd up their game on customer service - Not so. There new motto should be: "We're not happy, until you're not happy!"

The Flight Attendant's lack courtesy and respect for paying passengers evidenced by barking orders and lecturing when NOT necessary. Suggestion would be educating staff on Service Excellence and communication.
We are seasoned travelers and have traveled on various airlines. United is not one I would recommend. Our preferred airline is Delta which treats each passenger respectfully and courteously.

The only negative I can say is that the seats in the new jets used to fly from Boise to Chicago were very firm and uncomfortable. Very glad that was a short flight. Once past that, the flights from Chicago to Dublin and back were great, plenty of leg room, smooth flights and landings both ways. The Flight Attendants were pleasant and helpful.
We have flown with many airlines, if you had a negative experience with this flight crew, you brought the trouble on yourself.

Thanks United for a wonderful vacation to Ireland!
