For me, QANTAS has always been the gold star in terms of aircraft and service (equal to Singapore Airlines).
Unfortunately this time it was a complete let down. We were in a smaller plane (737-800), which can't be helped. Seats were ok, in flight entertainment was good (although sluggish). However service was a let down.
Travelling with a toddler, every other airline has checked on us to make sure everything was ok. Other airlines have checked with us first for meal preference, and kept one meal aside so that one of us can eat while our child is on the other's lap. Then they'd bring out the meal while my wife and I switched our child to the other parent.
They understand a satisfied and happy child makes for an enjoyable experience for the whole plane. A grumpy/cranky child means the whole plane has to hear them cry and scream.
This flight, the hostesses seemingly served people in a complete random way. Skipping aisles and in some cases, completely skipping passengers. They never checked on us (unless we pressed the attendant button), and it made the flight that much more uncomfortable.
I've always tried to fly QANTAS when travelling domestic, but I think this was the last time for a while. When standards slip that much it's time to look at Virgin next flight.
