“Houston to Hawaii via Seattle”
Review of Alaska Airlines

Reviewed June 17, 2019

We chose to fly Alaska Airlines because the price was so much better than a competitive airline. Although the trip was quite a bit longer due to the flight from Houston to Seattle to Lihue, we found it was worth the savings. I should note that my husband and I are both retired so time was not a factor in deciding which airline to take. The gogo app made the long trip more enjoyable and seemed to help pass the time. The flight stewards were attentive and friendly.

Friendly staff, good communications and up to date information. They do charge for bags $30 for the 1st bag. Seating is good, we would fly them again maybe try on next trip to Hawaii

This was our ONLY choice for a direct flight to Boise. We, literally would've had to fly from SAC, to LAX (change planes), to SFO, then to Boise... a 6-hour "see California" journey! Alaska Air said... "No... it only takes a bit more than an hour... fly us!" We were SOOOO glad that we did. Yes, it was a smaller, propeller plane... but we had as much stretching room as the big planes! And even though we hit BAD weather outside of Boise, our ride was fine! The bumps that we experienced were minimal... and my soda didn't spill! We would choose this airline and this particular flight again!

I used to fly Alaska a lot from Seattle to various points in the state of Alaska in the 80's and 90's and they were by far the best US airline. Now as time and competition has settled in they are better than most but still need to keep competitive. On the noted flight we paid more for the enhanced seating at apx. $120 per seat and were surprised to see no meal was included; it seems to be the goal of all airlines to extract every single penny from all customers, which is fine until they loose all brand loyalty. They did offer complimentary beverages which is great as you feel like you are getting something for your extra money. They jealously guard the first class lavatories and give 12 people one lavatory and the other 250 ? people three in the very back of the plane. Once again they have selected a plane design that maximizes the number of passengers that can fit in the plane and forces all people to the back of the plane to use the Lav, Then they complain about people congregating near the lav. People have no choice but to walk back about 40 or more rows to the back of the plane. I understand the idea of favoring first class but but some airlines still have the lavs in the middle of the plane and the tail. In any case Alaska was much better to Hawaii than Hawaiian. The US carriers all appear to be in this race to offer less for more, but I hope a carrier will follow the lead of the Asian carriers or Emirates and treat the customer like they value their repeat business and offer better value for the money and steal the market. With the Alaska Airlines credit card they did offer a free checked bag for all persons in the travel party; up to 6. We should all get a free checked bag anyway, If they limit the size of in cabin bags so they can charge more for checked bags this is just limiting service.

Be sure to get the GoGo app for your device. They offer a wide selection of TV and movies in flight. This helped with the 6+ hour flight from Orlando to Seattle. The hop from Seattle up to Juneau was only around two hours.
