The direct flight from PDX to EWR is easy, comfortable, and much preferred! My daughter and I do an NYC trip every other year and although our flight time of 6:00 ish is really early this flight gets in into the city before happy hour with an entire evening ahead of us. This trip we needed to take Amtrak to CT and that was simple from Liberty airport.

Flew Alaska Air from Anchorage overnight to LA. Choose 1st class as we had another long flight to catch in LA to NZ. For a First class service, I would have expected more. Service was average, meal was less than average (turkey sandwich). No offer of blanket for overnight flight. We base our flight experiences on the level of service we get from Air NZ and all I can say is Alaska Air could do with looking at flight its service level. If flying Alaska Air, remember to download the GoGo Entertainment app so you can watch inflight movies. One positive was that 1st class ticket got us into the Alaska Air lounge

We love flying Alaska Airlines, always on time, clean planes and easy check-in process. Flew the "red eye", airline seats are so uncomfortable, don't recline and they left cabin lights on so very difficult to get any good sleep. Absolutely hate that all carriers now charge to reserve a seat, Alaska included. Who wants to fly 6 hours next to a stranger while your spouse is two rows back. SHAME SHAME SHAME.

Alaska airlines is great especially if you want a direct flight from Edmonton to Seattle. I flew economy on the way down and 1st class on the way back. While waiting to board my flight they announced that they had 2 first class tickets for sale at $49 upgrade! I grabbed it. Great service and a nice flight. They also have changed planes and are using jets as opposed to the props. Way better!!
