Norwegian Dawn is the first cruise we have taken in a number of years, so I cannot compare to other competing cruises but only those in the past.

We did not take any excursions, so also cannot comment on missed
sightseeing opportunities. Itinerary for those staying in ports is not so perfect, as the ports in Nova Scotia and PEI Canada are not especially interesting. Maybe with excursions would be more fun... Too many generic gift shops and T shirt/souvenir stores in each port to make shopping interesting. Also not an especially interesting selection of restaurants for someone living in a major city.

Initial port of Quebec City is monumental and great, but far fewer French restaurants than many years ago... with changing tastes and international
tourism.

Food on Norwegian Dawn was generally not as good as cruises I went on in the past. (Note we also did not use specialty dining). Note that with perseverance
and trying different things until you find things you like, foodies can still enjoy the food very much.

SECRET: If an ingredient is anywhere on the sit down menu, you can request it as a side order. For example my wife got a full arugula salad every day that arugula showed up as a garnish in one of the appetizers.

Here are some specifics on the food:
Steak in main dining room was tasteless and below restaurant quality. Many other items are adequate. Buffet roast turkey, roast beef, and roast pork (with crispy skin) were very good. Coffee was almost undrinkable black, and most deserts were too sweet. Fake whipped cream was used everywhere but afternoon tea, where real cream was used. Nuts were almost unavailable for oatmeal or ice cream (maybe allergy related??) We had to ask and wait a long time to get some. Oranges were watery with no flavor. Chinese food was mysteriously not Chinese or even American Chinese!

Most desserts were too sweet for my taste, even I am a dessert lover.
Ice cream not very creamy. Souffles were authentic and really good.

MORE SECRETS: Other frequent cruise passengers got freebies for a variety of reasons. A heavy gambler got free or low cost cruises just to come.
A single passenger got single supplement waived at last minute.

Service was generally excellent, but some staff required repeated questioning
or orientation sometimes to get things right. Crew training to greet guests with a "hello" whenever possible, and a willingness for conversation puts guests in a good and sociable mood and adds to the experience.

We sailed on the Dawn for our wedding and honeymoon and we had an amazing experience from the second we stepped into the port until we departed. The Dawn is the perfect ship for a 1st time cruiser who doesn't want to be overwhelmed. In addition, the free style dining makes it

We should have a mixed review here. Maybe two or three out of five. The ports and onshore experiences were great. We sailed from NYC to Quebec City to see the fall colors. The room guy and many sevrice people on the Dawn were fun. However the dining on the Dawn is downright

Don't sail on the Dawn unless you want to go on the Norwegian diet: restaurant wait staff very slow and the food, especially in O'Sheehan's, was TERRIBLE! You will lose weight if you sail on Dawn. And don't expect a full night's sleep as the noise from some ship's activity

Although I was prepared for an obstructed view from my cabin, #8606, I was not prepared for the pre-dawn racket and banging when lowering the tender right outside our window. Be forewarned if booking an outside cabin. Layout of this ship is bizarre, forcing people to walk

2010: Nice crew, clean ship and good food. A little too much "noise" on the pool deck all day, but found a quiet spot. All in all a good cruise.
