American Duchess - small ship approximately 166 guests over 65, seems like all Americans. Included in tour was over night stay at Intercontinental Hotel. (makeup mirror, lots of counter space) You had to provide your own transportation from airport to hotel, then a shuttle bus was provided to hotel, then to ship. Hotel check in no issue. Front desk did not give us a general run down of hotel amenities like wifi, places to eat or check out time etc. Go out front door of hotel, turn right, lots of places to eat. Boat did not stop in Tunica as scheduled due to river traffic overnight. So we are on the boat for two straight days.
Stateroom - 335 rear of ship, pros - nice location, across from Service elevator ( no noise), easy to find. housekeeping excellent. Can hear motor from ship, soft hum, louder in bathroom, but does not disturb sleep. Comfy bed, feather pillows. Large closet. Cons - only one side table near bed. No individual lighting, lamp on side table or one main overhead light. Coffee maker, only coffee pods provided, check on expiry date on creamers, tea, cookies, fruit, pop (needs more diet selections), juice, ice cream at Perks, Free water bottles, you fill at filling station, no bottle water in room. Fridge. Bathroom, No makeup mirror, no counter space.
Shows - needs improvement. Only 3 entertainers, Husband and Wife duo, and other gentleman, band. Not much to do on ship. Floating retirement home, most guests disappear around 9:00pm. If you like solitude, this trip would be perfect.
Tours - hop on, hop off bus. Excellent service. Golf cart will take you to the bus if you have mobility issues. First stop, Mansion out in no mans land. No shops, nothing. Other stops, small towns, hop on, hop off, museums, mansions, shopping, restaurants.
Food on board, buffet and restaurant. Large variety. Main dinning room excellent service, depending on server. Thank you Justin for going above and beyond. Anything you needed, just ask and it will be provided. One main problem, server must of been having bad day, did not get our food order right, did not offer drinks. Made faces behind guests backs. My meal was luke warm, returned it to kitchen. Chef came out, apologized, and gave me a steaming hot platter. Few other problems were immediately corrected. After a few days, we became accustomed to the ship and started to enjoy ourselves.People, very friendly. Had to provide our own transportation to airport, so we booked a tour which included drop off at airport. Tour guide is very good, he is local musician. He can sing and play guitar and kept us well entertained. Saw famous Beale street, made one stop, saw statue of Elvis and BB King. I am an introvert, therefore enjoyed the peacefulness of the cruise. My husband is an extrovert, and had a difficult time adjusting to the slow pace, and very little to do. All in all, a somewhat enjoyable cruise, but once is enough.

The promo's and glossy advertising is not what you actually get for your money. depending on who is the Hotel Manager at the time how good or bad your cruise will be! On our cruise recently from Minneapolis/Red Wing to New Orleans the Hotel Management was not up to the job,

What a remarkable cruise! 3 weeks of river sailing from Red Wing, Minnesota to New Orleans. We saw Beautiful country on a boat that was luxurious yet comfortable. The crew (everyone of them) were amazing. Hop on/ hop off tours give the traveler a glimpse into the river

By now most travellers have done a cruise or two. Alaska, the Caribbean, perhaps the rivers of Europe. Why not cruise the Mississippi and discover the America you read about in school? We took the Northern Mississippi tour a round trip from Minneapolis and visiting towns in
