arrival in Ko Mak

What is the latest time that boats leave the mainland for Ko Mak? We will be travelling from Siem Reap and know that the border crossing is unpredictable in terms of how long it will take so do not know whether to book somewhere to stay on the mainland (Trat or Leam Ngog or Leam Sok) or to let our accommodation on the island know that we will arrive earlier than originally thought. Thanks.

Hi Deadhead,

Latest boat is at 16.00 from Krom Luang Pier (Laem Ngop), Panan Speedboats. My guess is that you will be cutting things fine as you never know with those transfers from Cambodia, so why not stay in Trat for the night and take a boat in the morning, 10.30 or 12.30 (Leelawadee or Panan) even later with the new catamaran Boonsiri (13.30). Trat has a great food market, plenty of guesthouses. They will sell you the ticket and organise the transfer to the pier.

It a bit depends on whether you're a gambler!

Regards

Christine

Whether you make the boat or not depends on how you plan to get from Siem Reap to the pier. If you are thinking of taking a cheap shared minibus then you aren't going to make it and should plan for a night in Trat.

However, If you plan to use private transfers then you will make it. No problem. You just need to leave Siem Reap at 7am. This ensures you avoid the late morning rush when tour buses arrive at the border. And you'll have time to stop on the way for lunch in Thailand.

Cheapest way is taxi to the border from hotel in Siem Reap for around US$30 and then taxi from the border to the pier for 2,200 Baht.

If you want safer drivers, better vehicles, some accountability should things not go to plan etc then arrange it through a good tour agent.
