10-night Itinerary Help

Husband and I will be in Costa Rica January 16th- 26th, 2013. Neither of us have ever been to Costa Rica. We are early 30's with no kids. We want to have a good mix of both relaxation (beach) and adventure. We had talked about San Jose, Arenal, Monteverde and Montezuma. However, since we are novices we are looking for any advice you have. We definitely want to see wildlife, rainforests and beautiful beaches. For the beach atmosphere- we want laid back with some activity in the area but not overrun with tourists.

Thanks!

Your itinerary actually sounds perfect. The best route would be Arenal, Monteverde, Montezuma and the last night in San Jose before departing. I wouldn't spend more time in SJ than that.

Thanks! So now my question- what is the easiest way to get from place to place? Could we do a rental car the entire time or are there easier ways to get from place to place?

You can do a rental car. If so get a GPS and a good map to back it up. Also, be sure to read the sidebar Q&A for details on insurance, etc..

You could also hire a transportation company. Here is a link to some good companies: tripadvisor.com/Travel-g291982-c109576/Costa…

Alternatively, you could work with a trip planner. The following is a link to some recommended companies. If you go this route, the company you choose should be ICT certified. Canatur and BBB certifications are good signs as well. Follow that up with reviews here on TA and on Google. tripadvisor.com/Travel-g291982-c117989/Costa…

Dear Brookyn...Thank you for coming to our country COSTA RICA!

In your case you can rent a car and hit the road...even than in some cases you can take shuttles...maybe you can take a shuttle bus to Arenal check Interbus nad or GrayLine...tow of our best shuttle companies...then from Arenal to Monteverde you can take the door to door service...Jeep-Boat-Jeep...is only $ 29.00 per person...very much like a half day tour...then..get a car and drive to Montezuma...by Puntarenas and the ferry to Paquera...then to Cobano then to Montezuma...nice to have a car around there...to visit...Mal Pais and Santa Tereza...very nice rides!

You can check car prices with...National...Avis...Hertz...Budget...Alamo...Adobe...Toyota and many more...
