first time to PDRO need advice

only 10 weeks to go to our first visit to Cuba, just a couple of questions if anyone can help. I am going to e-mail the hotel to book the restaurants for 1st week and to request a specific room, but how soon is an acceptable time to contact them prior to arrival. Second question is there any bars/restaurants within walking distance of the hotel complex. Thanks in advance

A couple weeks before you go for room requests. Not sure you can book alacarte before you arrive.

Guardalavaca would be the closes place and it's not within walking distance.

We contacted them on the above email at least 3 months before and a few times since and have received favourable replies each time.

You can get a horse drawn buggy from the hotel (which in itself is enjoyable) into Guardalavaca during the day. There is not a massive scene there but a handful of bars / basic restaurants down by the beach and market.

We have heard of an outdoor nightclub with live bands in the town and are going to give it a try during our visit in May. I will of course put a full report on here when we return............

You have picked a great hotel - make sure you visit all the al la carte restaurants as they all have a very different atmosphere.

Whilst there are no bars/restaurants outside the hotel you can always walk over to the Mares/Luna hotels next door if you want a change. They are not so grand but very friendly and a bit more lively than PRDO if you fancy more nightlife. Guests at PRDO have free access to all the facilities at the Mares/Luna.

You may also want to walk along the beach to the area in front of the other hotels as it's easier access into the sea - the only down side is you don't tend to see as many fish.

We have been to both the PRDO and Mares/Luna - both have different features but had a great time at each.
