Hoping for HELP! Additional Info Needed on Grand Palladium

First, I would like to thank everyone who takes time to read and respond to my post. My sister and I will be traveling here in March and after reading some reviews I am hoping to clarify some things...

I do realize everyone has a difference in opinion and what they are looking for on vacations. I decided to take the advice of the more positive reviews and book this resort. My sister and I are 33 & 31 both married and I have children are just looking for a few nights away to relax and have a good time. We will not be leaving the resort.

Is March a busy season here and what is the weather like?

We booked Jamaica tours round trip shuttle from airport to hotel how long does this take and anyone have good or bad experiences with this service?

Are all of the ala carte restaurants open everyday? I see they dont take reservations but what are the hours they are open?

Are all of the restaurants in one area or are they all spread out over the resort?

I keep reading about Sunset Cove, where is this in comparison to the hotel?

Is there entertainment every night and are the times and places easy to find?

I read there is a casino? Has anyone visited and is it small do they offer blackjack tables?

What is the spa like? We will be booking massages and facials etc is it easy to make appointments? What hours are they open? How are the prices?

I have read a few rooms not to stay in...It seems everyone says dont stay on the first floor? What rooms or floors would you reccomend staying in? How much does it cost to upgrade to an oceanview room?

Again, thank you so much. My sister and I are hoping to go to Jamaica for our first time and just really enjoy this. We have suffered some terrible losses in our family over the last year and a half and really are just looking to rejuvinate!!!

I read there is a casino? Has anyone visited and is it small do they offer blackjack tables?

I read there is a casino? Has anyone visited and is it small do they offer blackjack tables? It is small and only has slot machines. To my knowlege there are no "tables" in Jamaica.

What is the spa like? We will be booking massages and facials etc is it easy to make appointments? What hours are they open? How are the prices? The spa is very nice. I actually had made my reservations ahead of time at the Renova website (choose Grand Palladium from the main page) I also got a discount for booking and pre-paying online. Of course when we got there I was smart enough to bring my printed confirmation and they of course had no record of the appt or that we had pre-paid, but it all worked out. I highly recommend booking the couples massage on the beach at about 5:00. Beach is empty at that time and the sound of the waves just adds to the experience.

We stayed on the first floor overlooking the adults only pool on the Lady Hamilton side. Loved the fact we could pop out of our patio and grab a drink. I would highly recommend bringing ear plugs as the room buildings sare all setup off of a courtyard and the sound echos terribly as people are opening doors and talking in the common area.

Depending on how full the resort is will determine how many ala cartes they have open each night. This was a frustration of mine as no one could really tell you more than for current day what the schedule was. As a result we missed eating at two that we wanted to try because they were only open 2 nights during the time we were there. Has we known that we would have made different choices on a couple nights.

Sunset Cove is just a little ways down from the Spa building which is on the Lady Hamilton side of the resort. You don't mentoin if you are staying Jamaica side or Lady Hamilton side, but I found the Lady Hamilton side to be a better choice for us as it was closer to the things we did (spa and adults only pool)

Hope this helps

The ride for us was about 45 mins.. the casino was only a few slot machines that were in usd, sunset cove is well worth the walk to the far side of lady hamilton ( this is where the jerk chicken is for lunch) we had a upper floor room two years ago, the AC was fine..the weather was great, the resort was busy, however i found that any restaurant that we wanted to eat at, as long as i was there at 530 when it opened we never waited very long for a table... i really enjoyed the potato leek soup at the italian restaurant... most the restaurant are in the main building within a 5 min walk of each other... besides beach grills of course... i believe they were all open every night... there was a few things broken in the spa when i was there but this could have changed... we didnt book any services...

We just returned from GP last Friday, I'd ask for a room on the third floor if possible, although you have to walk up the stairs it's worth it. Friends of our were on the first floor and said it smelled musty/moldy, 2 seperate friends who were on the 2nd floor had water troubles, one had the shower above leaking into their shower and the other had the tub from the room above completely drain into their tub as well as a bunch of dirt, obviously they construction of the buildings is poor.

We asked for a room upgrade (as we were told we would receive one as part of our group package) and were told there were none available - only to find out the hotel was only at 60-70% occupancy.

Their were usually 2 al-a- carte restaurants closed each night and the schedule was posted in the lobby so it was easy to plan our eating for the week.

The spa was not that great, 3 of us had pedicures the room was lack luster, no luxury at all, the gals that were working were nice though. A friend had a massage and liked it. I have been to much nicer spas here at home and away, it was $65 for a spa pedi

There was some type of entertainment each night in the infinity lounge, there was also a show in the auditorium area - we weren't impressed with it, lots of lip syncing and bad comedy the night we stopped by.

Like others mentioned it took about 45mins by taxi.

If you have the jerk chicken from the Jerk Hut be prepared they chop the chicken into small pieces bone and all.

Oh please don't be nervous, we did have a good time, the weather was wonderful, the people (other than at the front desk) we all very friendly and kind, and although we didn't enjoy the official entertainment whatever was happening in the Infinity Lounge nightly was also entertaining. We did enjoy the al-a-carte restaurants especially the Indian and Steak restaurants. I just found the buffets to get boring after a while is all.

Sorry if I gave the impression we didn't have a good time as we did.
