Why does Lonely Planet call Kannur boring?

What am I missing by hitting northern beaches and not southern beaches?

Hi,

By southern beaches, I presume you mean Varkala and Kovalam.

LP most probably thinks Kannur is boring as there aren't that many foreign tourists there and there isn't that much of interest to the "normal" tourist in the town. However the fort is well worth a visit, but not the museum.

I love the fact that not that many people visit and have included it as part of our two trips to India, so far.

The beaches may be boring if you are into the party scene or like lots of restaurants/shops and therefore Varkala etc should be your choice. If you prefer peace and tranquility (as we do) then Kannur is just perfect with long stretches of deserted sandy beaches

There aren't that many places to stay at the beaches in Kannur, so I would strongly recommend you book early if you intend to visit. The place we stay at is Ezhara Beach House

Hope this helps - if you want any more info just ask
