Hi - There's Nyali Beach or Shanzu Beach in North Coast. don't recommend Bamburi.

Diani isn't too far once you cross over with Ferry. It's another 1 hours drive.

Advantage of staying in Diani, is that there's better & wider choice of cacommodation at lower rates.

With the kids, you reall should be looking at "All Incl" hotel. Wide choice of self catering cottages too.

North coast, have a look at Voyager or Whitesands hotels. Good facilities for kids.

Hi,

Basically depends what you want

the North Coast (Bamburi Beach, Nyali, Shanzu) transfer from airport is easier and quicker, access to Mombasa Town is easier, there are more things to do, and a much wider choice of restaurants, clubs, bars, etc. historically these hotels were much busier than the South Coast hotels, a major restricting factor was the fact that the South Coast is accessed by ferries, which in the past could add significantly to transfer time and used to suffer regular incidents. Now the new ferries have been in service for some time and the coxswains have learned how to sail them, traffic hold ups are much less frequent and incidents are much rarer.

South Coast (Diani, etc) has better beaches, is less developed, many hotels are smaller and were cheaper (because of low occupancy) than the North Coast ones, it now appears that English travel companies are dropping the North Coast hotels which have become too expensive for them (some are now in their Premium brochures) and are including the South Coast hotels in their brochures instead. North Coast hotels are now very quiet for long periods and English tourists seem to be in a minority

Hi, South coast hotels are much better and its not that far away from north. Its about 1hr 45mins by taxi from north, that's including traffic. Some excellent hotels i can mention and have been to are ( http://www.dianireef.com/ ), ( http://www.baobab-beach-resort.com/eng/ ) and

( http://www.southernpalmskenya.com/ ). Very peaceful compare to North coast and beaches are aslo much cleaner, whiter and bigger. There are activities organized for the kids throughout the day, every day by the animation team. I would recommend south coast, it is much better.

Hi, I have been reading your various posts over the past few days - clearly you have loads of local knowledge. I was considering the North Coast simply to avoid using the unsafe Likoni ferry crossing. Is it the case that the two relatively new ferries are now the only ones to make the crossing if travelling by car ?
