Going to Diani Beach area in September was wondering what is the best currency to take Dollars or Sterling?

Easiest just to take your debit card and get Kenya shillings from the ATMs (plus $25 cash each adult for the visa on arrival).

Have a great trip.

We take dollars for the visa and sterling which we change at Coast Forex in Mombasa. There's also a bank in baggage reclaim at Mombasa airport so you could change a little while you wait for your bags to come off the carousel - just in case the ATMs aren't working.

Do tell your bank that you will be using your card in Kenya to avoid a red face at the till. Having said that Lloyds TSB took no notice and still declined the card.

Don't change money at your coast hotel as they offer a lousy rate.

Have to say both - Dollars for visa, Sterling to change at the airport forexnot the bank exchange)Make sur you change enough to last tl you can get into town. Add Abbey to the list of those you tell and then decline the card. Also only use your Abbey card if its called Santander otherwis charges are astronomical

That is unless your Abbey card is an Abbey Zero which is specifically designed for travellers and has no charges at all

Either one is fine for hard currency. Make sure your debit card is good for international transactions and you can just use that at several banks to obtain local Kenyan shillings.
