Villa in Castro Marim

Could anyone give me more info on this area as hiring a villa with friends in June. We want somewhere we can chill out but not somewhere in the back of beyound. Would this be a good choice? Info on the Villa says

Villa Mimosa provides the best of all worlds. Located in a small rural hillside hamlet, amongst small farms and orchards, only minutes away from several beautiful beaches, coastal towns and the Spanish Border. The historic town of Castro Marim with castle and fort, and the local nature reserve is less than 5 min away. Seaside towns of Monte Gordo, Vila Real and Ayamonte (in Spain) with a wide range of restaurants and bars are nearby.

Nearest restaurant at Rio Seco, 3 min drive, 10 min walk.

Any info greatly received Thanks

If the village of Rio Seco is 10 min walk, this puts the villa fairly well in the back of beyond. Rio Seco is in the parish of Castro Marim, but around 2.5 miles from the actual village of that name.

The town of Vila Real de Santo Antonio is about 4 miles, Monte Gordo with its wide sandy beach about 7 miles. Ayamonte in Spain is about 8 miles over the river using the bridge.

Castro Marim itself is a fairly pleasant village and is dominated by two huge castles. There isn't much in the way of shops etc there.

A car is essential as there is no public transport in the area. Supermarkets are located in Vila Real de Santo Antonio.

Yes, you are out in the country but not really far from anything. There are nearer beaches than Monte Gordo - Praia Verde is about half the distance and much much nicer.

I think the nearby restaurant is Ze do Tasca which is great - traditional Algarve restaurant, great food and good value.

Taxis would certainly be an option - there is a good local network.

Hope this helps.

I have stayed here before with a few mates and loved it. Very chilled out and also a short taxi trip to Villa Real, Monte Gordo and Ayemonte
