Light eating in or near Samaniego?

We will be staying at Palacio de Samaniego on June 11 and 12 (2 nights) this summer.

Their restaurant is highly praised (so we hear), so we count on having more than a few meals there.

However, we were wondering if there are other establishments (perhaps less touristic-more local?) in the village and around that you would recommend, espescially for lunch (perhaps tapas?) between two vineyard visits?

Tapas are not for lunch, they are not a meal, and in the Basque Country it´s pintxos you find. There´s not much offer, as I recall, but for sure there are bars where you can have a lighter meal in Samaniego, don´t worry about that.

Hello Denis_J,

Samaniego is quite small but charming village. And your hotel is really a wonderful option.

Both to have lunch in a restaurant or to eat pintxos I recommend you to go to the neighbouring town of Laguardia, which anyway deserves a visit and that it is only 10 km away to the East of Samaniego. Another option with big number of restaurants and pintxo bars is Haro, at around 20 km to the West of Samaniego.

But there are plenty other choices, depending on where you will be tasting wines. You will have no problem to have a light meal.

Actually some cellars do also serve food.
