We are going to Sumatra in early June for about 10-12 days and then on to Thailand for a month and about the same in Mongolia. We'll be flying in from San Francisco with a layover either in Singapore or Bangkok and then fly to Sumatra. We are travelling with our 11 and 13 year old boys. Since we will have had a long flight from California, we'd like to start off with a relaxing beach trip - with airconditioning etc...and then get progressively more rugged.
Here's our itinerary so far..
Fly into Aceh and take a ferry to Sabang
stay there for about 3 days of snorkeling, maybe scuba, (other activities?)
fly to Medan and take a bus to bukit lawang for about 4 days - stay in a jungle lodge and perhaps do an overnight
then the long haul to Lake Danau Toba-staying perhaps somewhere on the island? Tuk Tuk? 3 days
to medan for a night and then back to thailand.
So...thoughts on whether that's just too much travel for the amount of time in each place
Does the itinerary make sense
are there closer snorkel/dive beaches that are relaxing and safe for kids near Medan?
