Baby food/cows milk levi supermarket

Hi everyone,

Just preparing for our trip later this month and wondering how much baby/toddler stuff I need to take. We have a one year old and we've tried to pre-book an extra suitcase to take stuff for him but it seems inghams/flybe aren't willing to do this.

Are the following available in the supermarket at reasonable prices?

- full fat fresh milk

- nappies

- baby wipes

- baby food

Many thanks

Angie

You'll find all of these at the Levimarket.

The full milk (3,5%) is coded with red packages, it called in Finnish kulutusmaito or täysmaito. The baby stuff is close to the cashiers next to the soda driks & beer. Don't get scared, you really need to walk throught the store before you reach the right shelf ;)

We took my 20 month old granddaughter in Dec and although we took nappies etc plus formula milk we could have bought any of it in levi. They had everything we needed and needn't have took space up in the case packing it all. We also took tge pram but fohnd it hard going and used a sledge most of the time to pull her around on. Take plenty of wsrm clothes we spent a fortune on all the right gear for her but dhe was hsppy as larry and loved it.

Also we all used the maximum size cabin bags for each of us and fit loads in them. Five kilos per case came in very handy!

Thank you all - that's really useful. We've been to levi quite a lot in the past but this will be the first time as parents.

We are going with my parents, plus my brother and his girlfriend so hopefully the adults to infant ratio of 6 to 1 should help with keeping him happy/warm etc. (and us getting the odd chance to ski!)

We've spent a small fortune kitting him out in Scandinavian winter wear (many tune what we paid for our own clothes) and are taking the buggy with cosytoes so hopefully he won't get cold. Appreciate the heads up about the buggy being hard going - was that on the paths around levi or track going up to kidsland etc? How did you keep them warm in the sledge?

Very excited now - not long to go!!

Babies will need to be dressed similarly with layers as you adults, babies even more as they don't move around to produce body heat with their muscles. Prams will be good if they have a bit larger wheels on them or if the front wheels can be locked to go straight. If the wheels are are turning around constantly they'll be difficult to be pushed forwards.

Milk, baby formulas and food and diapers, baby wipes and what not is all readily available in all supermarkets. Baby food brands include Pilti, Bona, Muksu and Onni, some chains have also their own private labels like K markets' Pirkka Napero.

Angie - At Christmas the supermarkets sold out of 3.5% for some reason - so I would always keep a spare carton in the fridge; it did come back in the day after boxing day, but there was always more 1%/1.5% than full fat (must be those health conscious Finns!!!)

Maybe the reason is health consciousness, but most likely the reason was the Finnish people making rice porridge for Christmas ;) finland.fi/Public/default.aspx…

Useful advice - will stock up when we get there and he has gone to bed with grandparents babysitting (what time does the supermarket shut?)

He is 14 months so is walking a bit but needs the buggy to rest in. Will check the wheels can be fixed so they don't swivel. Thanks

Normally the K-Supermarket Levi Market (Leviraitti 1) is open Mon-Sat 8-21 and Sun 9-21. There are also two K-Markets: K-Market Levi (Tunturintie 2 - in the Kouta area of Levi), K-Market Sirkan kauppa (Leviraitti 26) both are open daily 9-21. S-Market Levi (Leviraitti 18) is open Mon-Sat 8-21, Sun 12-21.
