Consuming own alcohol in hotel lounges?

Looking at everyone's comments on here it sounds like Levi is quite expensive for wine and beer, does anyone know the policy on being able to drink your own wine etc in the public areas of hotels ie K5' as opposed to sitting in your hotel room, or is this frowned upon?

The Finnish alcohol legislation forbids consumption of one's own alcoholic drinks in a place that has a licence to dispense alcoholic drinks, therefore you are not allowed to drink your own alcoholic drinks in the hotel lounges - and quite often not even drinks from the bar, as the licensed premises are restricted and taking drinks out of this area is not allowed, as according to the law the licensed premises has to be always supervised by the staff.

Good to know also that public drinking, out of your own bottle, is generally not allowed on built-up areas, including public transportation. If you are in a park or on the countryside then it is fine.

Drinking on streets used to be legal for a while. On summer nights young people used to sit on the street next to a pile of beer cases and party all night long. No wonder why the new law was passed.

'Plastic bag beer' is a very common phenomenon on public places. It may not be quite according to the legislation, but no one seems to care enough to actually enforce this.

A common, proven method is to drink a botlle (0.5 l) of Koskenkorva just outside the bar. You are not too drunk to enter yet you don't need to drink that much while inside.
