Tips on preventing Mosquitos bites please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

Anyone any good tips on preventing these things biting please.

I did read somewhere that if you open your windows at night but close the shutters if you have then this stops them nibbling at night is this so?

Also best sprays to use.

Going Corfu July this year last year went in Sept and wasnt bad at all.

Cheers everyone

I take vit B complex for about a month before I go and whilst I'm away. There is some medical/scientific basis to this I'm assured but I never get bitten - and I'm not even touching wood!!!

get some sinkov from the shop when you get there, it's really cheap and in my opinion better than stuff you get here and at night air con in your room.

my mum swears by drinking tonic water (but maybe thats just an excuse to have a gin and tonic!!!)

I also take Vit B supplement, eat plenty of garlic & Marmite before & during a trip. Use Avon So Soft Spray Oil plus a Jungle Formula repellent (bit nasty as it has DEET), lemon flavoured shower/shampoo (they don't go for citrus smelling things apparently) , & doctor told me to take a one-a-day antihistamine tablet so that if I do get bit it reduces my reaction. Was in Greece for 2 weeks in May & did not get bit by a mozzie until the next to last day whereas before I took all these precautions I used to get eaten alive.

Also use a mozzie plug-in at night, & would only keep windows open if there are mozzie screens or net curtains

I too used to get eaten alive but now I

a) take anithistamines about 2 weeks before I go

b) use Avon Skin So Soft (blue bottle) after showering

c) use Mozzie Milk (find it on ebay)

d) dab citronella oil wrists and behind ears

e) use a plug in repellant

f) use repellant candles in the room

It's the citron smell they don't like and I haven't been bitten since

Hiya!

There are two things that work like a charm for me.

When I go out for dinner or drinks, I use a lotion made of b-panthenol cream and 2% menthol. It's the best after-sun lotion because it soothes and cools the skin but it also drives the little monsters away because they hate menthol. I carry a little bottle of it with me, in case I stay out for many hours and the menthol's smell gets weak.

When I'm at home, hotel room, balcony etc, I simply turn on a fan. They just can't fly against the fan's wind and... the end! If the hotel you're staying at doesn't have a fan ask the reception if there's one you can borrow or buy a cheap one. They cost 15-20 euros tops and you can leave it behind for the next mozzie-h(a)unted guest.

I have 2 bottles of skin so soft dry oil spray for a 2 week stay do you think this is enough - just the thought of being bit sends me off the deep end cos they love me and I get a bad reaction to the bites - it spoils your hols too
