Welcome to Sicily 15Claire15!

There is no train station in San Leone, but local buses run from Agrigento's bus station at Piazzale Rosselli to San Leone, so perhaps arrive in Agrigento from Palermo via the Cuffaro bus service, 2 hours.

There's no public transport of any kind to Scala dei Turchi, you would need a car to get there.

Is Eraclea Minoa, or Cattolica Eraclea?

There's no direct transport to Scala dei Turch, but Lumia does run bus service between Agrigento and Realmonte.

The bus arrives in Realmonte at via Rina, about 3 km from the Scala dei Turchi, a minimum 40-minute walk. You would see brown signs “Scala dei Turchi”.

There's no public transport to Eraclea Minoa.

Well grazie for all that I suppose we'll just have to get out our best hitch hiking thumb if we want a break from the temples...

Very few people hitchhike - 'autostop' in Sicily. It is illegal to thumb a lift on fast roads - autostrade, for example. You never see women hitching, it is probable that most drivers will assume you are 'looking for business' if you stand in the road... Be careful.

Hitchhiking is not common at all and definitely forbidden on the motorway 15Claire15 - Plan your transport, expect to walk long distances, or select another destination.

Oh and there was I imagining this nice peaceful country road...have hitched on the mainland and in sardinia but will obviously have to rethink this - of course if guidebooks were better it would help thank goodness for trip advisor. Where would be a good stop heading west from agrigento for sea pizza peace and quiet and a bit of Culture accessable by public transport for a 3-4 day base?

Perhaps consider Sciacca - Lumia runs the bus between Agrigento and Sciacca.

Sciacca is a picturesque seaside fishing and spa town, and also a bustling ceramic centre with some excellent trattoire, very local, not touristy, good beaches, and an excellent base to experience local Sicilian life. Sciacca is a nice town with a lot to offer.

Does anyone know which bus we need to catch to get from Agrigento train station to San Leone? We are flying in on a Sunday and will be catching a train down from Palermo to Agrigento.

Failing no buses are there local taxis outside the train station?

Many thanks

Take a taxi on a Sunday, FEST. But better to prearrange a transfer.
