Health Care - E11

Hi, just wondering if there is a State Hospital near Golf Del Sur which would be covered by our E11 (if any treatment was needed) or is "Hospiten Global Care" a private place?

Alternatively, is there a State Hospital in the area nearby.

Any information would be much appreciated, thanks

Hi, don't rely entirely on the E111 card as it only gives you basic emergency care, in a state social care medical centre or hospital, including ambulance. All travel companies would recommend you travel insurance as well.

You do need to carry the card with you at all times.

Agree with Rickybear, there is a public hospital in Los Cristianos, but unfortunately most hotels or resorts would probably call the private ambulance service that would take you to the private hospital (hospiten).

There are a couple of other threads on the main Tenerife forum that it would be worthwhile having a look at. Although they are mainly discussing dialysis treatment there are some links and advice in there which apply to everyone who needs to have treatment when on holiday.

I presume you are talking about the EHIC card which replaced the E111 some years ago. If you actually still have a E111 it is no longer valid.

To be on the safe side do get travel insurance. If you go on a comparison website you can get it with change out of £20. Not worth the worry going without it.

I recall previous posts on here relating to E111 cards and having mega problems at the hospital. Don't rely on it.

The E111 card is FREE to all from the NHS and is invaluable for minor medical problems, my husband had his eyes washed out and a couple of stitches when we were in Lanzarote,we had Travel Insurance but it would have meant travelling further to a Private Hospital and treatment would have been the same.
