Enjoy a few days in Marigot, take a day sail to the south. Later in the week have a car rental delivered to you so you can explore Castries and the North end of the Island. Drive yourself to the airport on your last day and see the south coast, the Pitons and Soufriere. Driving is not that bad, just take your time and let quicker drivers pass when you have a chance to pull over. Marigot is a wonderful place to stay but don't miss out on the rest of Saint Lucia!

The cottage is quite clean - we had to ask for the shower to be cleaned because of hair build up but that was an isolated incident. The maid Rose comes every other day and does a reasonable job. There is nothing to do within walking distance except go to the Marina - few shops including an expensive grocery stores - if you want grocery type supplies - chips coke beer liquor anything else go to Super J's - not walkable about 7 min drive by taxi - I don't want to guess at the cab fare - we always stopped en route to something else - so an intermediate stop between points does not cost any more. Also re walking please remember that Marigot Bay is a Hurricane Hole so you go way down a hill to enter - by same token you have to walk up that hill to get out. Dancing - well yes possible on Tuesdays at Chateau Mygo when there is live music - but no nightclubs. Bugs - well many and do take bug repellent. Bug coils are very good. Do not think of this like mosquitoes - there are unseen bugs and I believe ants that bite oh yes and flying beetles (very small) that bore into the skin - I want to answer your questions honestly. - Don't be put off by the bugs, if you have ever been in the tropics you are going to get this kind of stuff I believe that there were more bugs than what I thought would be normal but that is because there has been a fare amount of rain that should have stopped by the end of November. Sleeping was not problem wonderful King Size bed, reasonably good linen and almost no noise after 9. p.m. so this was really nice. P>S no TV or anything like that - so you listen to music or watch the stars.

The link will provide reviews of the cottage.

I stayed in June last year, had a wonderful time, interesting reading the different view points of Marigot , depends I suppose on what you look for when taking a vacation.

I always do a little research on where I am going, so knew I was not going to a 5* all in sanitised resort location, but then I have different expectations when I travel, I didn't want to go to a place where its 'home' with the sea on my doorstep.

I liked the fact that the area is a little isolated, not full of tacky souvenier shops, high street takeaways and all the other add ons that seem to be so much part of the tourist trail around the globe.

Marigot was perfect for the type of vacation I was looking for, I have plenty of stress and pressure in my day to day life, I work in a city that operates 24/7 with millions of others doing the same, this place was the the right antidote to get away from that.

Expect things to be different from back home, not worse just different, how much fun to go on a little ferry to have a meal, do a bit of shopping, even to get to your choice of your holiday home, so much better than sitting in a car stuck on a motorway or squashed in a train with so many others.

I found the St Lucians to be friendly and helpful, for many tourism is their livelyhood so it pays to be, but to me there was a genuine warmth as well, then I took the time to talk with them, not just demand a service of some kind,

Your on vacation, expect the wallet to be much lighter than we you arrive, haggle over the cab/water taxi rides, they ain't going turn buisness away,

the restraunts in the area are fine, some you will love and others may just depend on the day,

Its a beautiful place, the lack of mass transport helps keep it that way.

I loved the place , warts and all...........

We have just booked Ginger Cottage for February 2013. I must admit after reading the review posted by Popsicle Calgary I was skeptical, until I checked her history. She seems to be very critical in most of her comments. I emailed another reviewer directly, made our descision and went ahead and booked.

Sometimes you have to go with the flow, expect that renting a cottage is not a 5+ star resort, and "don't sweat the small stuff".

We once rented a condo in Mexico, it had mismatched dishes, dents in the furniture, and generally looked its age; we had a great time anyway, just considered it all part of the adventure. The food tastes just as good, the sunsets or sunrises just as glorious, and the weather just as warm.
