Pubs & restaurants.

We're staying in Masham for 5 nights in December and I have not got a clue what to expect!

Is there many pubs & restaurants in the area?

We are a couple in our late 40's just looking to have a quite drink and maybe a meal or 2 out.

All help much appreciated.

Diane

Well, don't expect the bright lights!

Masham has a lovely little restaurant right in the centre called Vennells.

You can also do a Brewery tour and have a meal in the Black Sheep Brewery although the bistro gets mixed reviews.

There are a couple of tea shops around the big market square (a small market is held twice a week, don't miss the excellent cheese stall which does a cheese with beer in it).

Just outside Masham is Swinton Park which does a supeb afternoon tea as well as having a special occasion restaurant.

There are loads of pubs and restaurants in the area around Masham. I live close by and our favourites are the Blue Lion at East Witton and the superb Wensleydale Heifer at West Witton which does wonderful fish dishes.

If you are out and about don't miss going to Ripon, a small cathedral city with an amazing cathedral. The Royal Oak is a goodplace for lunch or dinner.

If you like history don't miss Jervaulx Abbey (free entry) and Fountains Abbey/Studley Royal (National Trust).

Masham is full of pubs and also resturaunts.

We always recommend our visitors to start with the Bay Horse or the Kings Head as they are on our doorstep. Never had a complaint about the Bay Horse except that the portions are huge. Vennals is next door and is a fabulous Award Winning restaurant. The White Bear and the Black Sheep Brewery Bistro are great favourites and the town is bursting with cafe's that serve amazing Italian coffees, wonderful and interesting lunches and all the usual cakes and pastries. Two breweries and galleries, sweet shops, chocolate shops, delicatessan and 2 markets and you are spoilt for choice. Have a wonderful visit.

We've just got back from a quick stop in Masham on our way home from a week in Yorkshire.

It's a lovely place, which we've already said we'd revisit.

We did the Theakston Brewery Tour, and then had a lovely lunch in the White Bear ( The Beer battered Scampi was amazing!)

Enjoy your trip, the locals are lovely and friendly.
