Is it worth it in July?

We had originally looked to include TDP but the weather looks like it could cause lots of travel delays, I'm not sure if we'd see any wildlife and it's an expensive diversion. Has anyone been or have an opinion for or against scrapping that section and staying more northerly for longer?

If you're keen hikers and prepared for the winter conditions then I think you could have a great experience.

How often do you get a chance to have one of the world's finest National Parks all to yourself?

In terms of the wildlife - yes, a lot of the birdlife has gone elsewhere but actually the snowline brings some of the other wildlife down the trails, and there are very few people to scare them off.

The challenge is that not all the refugios are open so it needs some careful planning.

Hope this helps,

it'll be tent only if you wish to stay in the park,

not for the average tourist,

as it's mid winter,

though people who have spent entire years in the park say it can be the most spectacular time of year

plus it's devoid of anyone

Most of the campgrounds will also be closed but the Refugio Paine Grande (run by Vertice) stays open all year, I believe, and some hotels have very big discounts on rooms in winter. You could try contacting Hotel Las Torres and see what winter prices are.
