Torres Del Paine some questions

We are booked in January for 8 nights staying in the Refugios and buying meals for breakfast and dinner. Not carrying too much is a priority for us. A couple of questions.

Can we obtain easily at the refugio boiling water to make a thermas of coffee for our walks. Can we make our own coffee in the evenings and if not can we easily buy a coffee at night.

Can we do a small amount of washing during the eight days, We would like to do a small amount of washing at the refugios that we stay two nights (giving an opportunity for it to hopefully dry).

Cheers Liz

I suppose the boiling water depends on how busy the refugio is. But, in theory, I don't see why they would mind filling your thermos. Most of the refugios have a bar area where you can buy a coffee. It will probably be instant.

You often see people's socks and even larger items drying by the fire in the refugios - not because they washed them but because they got wet. If there is a bit of sun the wind takes care of quick drying outside. Bring one of those twisted elastic clothesline things. Otherwise your socks may precede you to the next refugio on the wind. I don't think anyone washes big items while trekking.

Most every Refugio that we stopped into last week had big thermoses on the counter marked Agua Caliente. They were free to use - the guys who work in the refugios are generally very helpful. Not sure on laundry, but don't hesitate to ask.
