TDP Question: to get there, Pehoe Catamaran

Hi!

We'd like doing W trail in the end of April (probably between 24 and 28 april). We'd like beginning in the west (Guardería Pudeto).

Will the catamaran on the lake Pehoé available?

How can I get to TDP from Punta Arenas / Puerto Natales by public transport? How lond does it take? How much does it cost?

can the return trip be made the same way?

I can't answer your question about the catamaran running in April, but I suggest you contact a tour agency with that question.

There are buses running from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales every day. It's about a 3-hour trip for about $10.

If you're going to TDP, you're better off starting from Puerto Natales because all the buses from PN to TDP are organized to follow a schedule that works with the shuttles and catamarans in the park. Stay overnight in PN and then take the first bus to the park in the morning. Buses leave PN at 8AM (pick up throughout town between 7:30 - 8:00). They arrive at Laguna Amarga (park entrance where you pay your park fee) at 10AM and at the catamaran site at 11AM so you have an hour to wait for the noon catamaran. You will pay $30 for your return ticket on the bus. Your return ticket will have the times printed on the back so you know the three times you can leave the park (morning, afternoon and evening). BUT this is based on our trip in December. You should contact a tour agency for the times in April (even if you are not going to use the tour agency for the trip, they have valuable info).

The catamaran usually stops running the first days of April.

Yes, it's thirty minutes. If you're interested, I posted our trip (Dec 11 - 15, 2010) journal on the forum. It might give you some additional info.
