Hi finally booked our family holiday to Aerollos hotel in August and can't wait. We are a family of 5 children aged 3,5 and 8. Anybody have any suggestions on things we might try doing, seeing whilst we are there. Many thanks in advance. Wayde

You are right - I love Pefkohori! It is not like the typical image of the Greek islands - there aren't the whitewashed buildings & blue shutters, but it is very pretty and very green. The village has 3 main areas - the beach & promenade, the main road that runs parallel to the beach, and the old square which is up behind the main road.

There are not a lot of sights in the immediate area, your best option is to have a car to drive round the peninsula, and even over to the middle peninsula (Sithonia) which is very beautiful. You can easily get to nearby villages - Hanioti is about 5km away so can be walked (along the beach road) in about 40 mins or by bus or taxi. It is a nice village to wander round and go for a night out.

I see in your photo you are a cyclist - yuo can hire bikes and visit nearby areas - if you go south towards Paliouri there is a lovely lagoon called Glarokavos with great beach bars, and further down towards Chrusso there are a whole host of lovely beaches and bars...

The taxis are usually Mercedes so you would put 3 in the back and one in the front, they may allow an extra child, it depends on the driver. The cab rank in Pefkohori is on the main road outside Mamos - you can always ask people in the queue if they want to share a 2nd taxi to spread the cost - it's quite common! Having said that, it is only about 6 Euros to Hanioti, so won't break the bank!

Most people who go to Halkidiki fall in love with it and go back year after year. If you go with the rght expectations you won't be disappointed. In August it will be very hot & busy, but there is a great buzz to the area....
