Hurricane Sandy

I am leaving Friday for Ensenachos but now Hurricane Sandy has an expected path across Eastern Cuba for Thursday. Does anyone have experience with how they decide whether to cancel flight in/out of Santa Clara in these cases?

I know it is on the fringe of the path and it is expected to be a Cat 1 but...

Wouldnt want to be heading for Holguin!

You might be lucky and avoid it.

I am hoping to avoid it but watching the forecast path closely.

I am just worried about flights in at this point - cancellations and delays Thursay /Friday.

Nothing much you can do except keep in touch with the airline nearer the date.

Sandy is not a hurricane yet, although it is forecasted to become one. They will likely cancel the flight only if there is a hurricane warning issued for the area you are flying to. At the moment there is a watch in place pretty close, if not actually at Santa Clara, but it is a watch, not a warning.

"THE GOVERNMENT OF CUBA HAS ISSUED A HURRICANE WATCH FOR THE CUBAN

PROVINCES OF CAMAGUEY...LAS TUNAS...GRANMA...SANTIAGO DE CUBA...

HOLGUIN...AND GUANTANAMO."

The government of Cuba has issued a hurricane watch for the provinces of Camaguey, Las Tunas, Granma, Santiago de Cuba, Holguin and Guantanamo. I'm heading to Santa Maria on the same Friday flight in the morning. You can review your flight status 24 hours before. Normally the company where you purchased your ticket from would contact you in the case that a flight will be cancelled within 24 hours before your flight. I would just keep in contact with a representative to get a the latest update.

Hope that helps,

Yup that seems to work in principal but in reality very few are contacted. Take the bull by the horns and look out for yourself. Call, don't wait for them.
