We are staying 15 minutes from progreso in a vrbo and want to know if there are good grocery stores in progeso or do we have to go to merida's costco to shop?

Bodega Aurrera http://www.cylex.com.mx/progreso/bodega+aurrera+-+sucursal+progreso+yucatan-11113639.html

is your best local option. They will have all the basics. For imported products like wine, cheese, cold meats you could go down to Cotsco, or Sam's Club.

Come to Merida for your bulk items like beer (you are Canadians right?) and wine, water, etc and then buy your smaller stuff at the Bodega each week.

hi Bevie we just were in Progreso for 2 weeks and we wish we would have done the Costco or Walmart in Merida. 1. if you take half and half in your coffee you cant get it in progreso.2. if you want cheddar cheese nope they have very little cheese. 3. sliced turkey or salami and 4. breakfast sausage are hard to get. We took things like some spices, zip lock bags, bounce sheets, some coffee filters #4 , toothpicks, tea bags and some splenda. If you have specific things that you are not going to use alot of then best to bring it from home cause other wise you are buying lots of stuff that you will only use a bit of.

hope you enjoy Progreso as much as we did.

We were in Progeso in Feb and March 2012. There is also a grocery store on Calle 80 - downtown, called San Fransisco. Not quite as large as the Bodega, but will have most of what you need as well.

A Costco run in Merida might not be a bad idea. But you will get most of what you need in Progreso. Coffee cream was something I couldn't find in Progreso - wasn't sure if its because I don't know enough Spanish?

We used Bailey's instead! After all, we were on holidays! Enjoy, we loved it there!

There is a smaller grocery store that has some specialty items such as organic coffee called Francisco de Assis on calle 80. It is not as big, but it does have most of the things I needed.
