Episcopal Palace

Episcopal Palace - This building was designed by Gaudi and is one of the principal tourist attractions. The Bishop Juan Bautista Grau came from Reus and he asked Gaudi to design it because Gaudi was the most important architect and he also came from Reus. The palace was started in 1889 and was finished in 1913. It took a long time to finish because the bishop died after the palace was started. The design looks like a Gothic castle. The palace now houses the very large Episcopal museum and is filled with art work and religious art. The building has beautiful modern stained glass windows, some with symmetrical designs. There are three enormous metal angels in the gardens.

And while you are there you should try the mantecadas (cupcakes) de

Astorga and the cocido margato. The cocido is probably better in the cooler months than during a summer visit.

Sorry about another typo. It's cocido maragato.
