Dear Sangeeta2007,

There are many root bridges in the southern slopes of Khasi Hills. The most famous of which is the Double Decker Living root bridges in Nongriat. For the DOuble Decker , you have to take a right turn either from Saitsohpen towards Mawmluh and Mawshamok or take the right from Maw ki Syiem in Sohra. Then just before reaching Laitkynsew, take the right towards Tyrna village and start your 3000 steps downhill a little ahead after Tyrna. For guides, you can ask Mr. Denis Rayen, Cherra Holiday Resort, www.cherrapunjee.com 94361-15925 to help you with a local guide. Else you can also ask them to take you to other living root bridges in the area which are closer by and that does not involve long treks. Anyway if you are interested to do the DOuble Decker but you feel that it would be too tiring, you can rest your tired legs and halt the night over in a small guest house that is located near the Double Decker and then proceed back up the next morning. You ask CHerra Holiday Resort to help you book

a room in the little guest house.

There is also a Single Decker Living Root Bridge near Mawlynnong village in Riwai Village. The Trek down to the Bridge is about 500-600 meters from the Motorable road.

Also if you are interested in other Living Root Bridges in the Mawsynram area, you can get in touch with Mr. James Perry of Cultural Pursuits. His contact number is 98560 41205 / 94363 03978 www.culturalpursuits.com
