hotel snowflake/apartments vs holiday club

Hello

travelling hopefully early dec to saariselka...anyone stayed in the snowflake ?

Was planning 3 night now upped to 4 following comments from others ! Travelling alone with 9 year old son who is keen to experience snow snow and more snow !

Wondering about the holiday club due to pool or will we just be too busy outside to make good use of it.

Looking to go 1/2 board but have heard some scary stories about the poor quality of food in the buffets....not expecting anything out of the ordinary but just some hot clearly labelled choices as my son has allergies to consider..

Looking to travel I think with thompson..and believe you get a personal chat with the man santa himself...anyone else been here with thompson

Comments much appreciated

Thank you

The Santa visit with thomsons is well done. You are picked up from your hotel by your named elf (who collected you from the airport). You are taken to a woodland area about 15 minutes away. It's an open area in the middle of nowhere, no actual entrance at all so no idea how they stop people getting in who shouldn't be there! It must be near klattusslan (no idea spelling!) as you can see the igloos when doing the snowmobile taster.

You are given vouchers for the snowmobiles, huskies and reindeer, a time slot for lunch and a map and left to go explore on your own. You are there from say 9-2.30pm. The time flies though! So whilst there you can go see the Lappish koto hut for the Lappish ceremony, go on your tasters, try the mini skidoos (can have lots of goes!) and have lunch. When its time to meet Santa you are taken by snowmobile sleigh to find his cabin in the woods. On arrival you are greeted by the elf and you spend 5 mins or so with him, chatting having photo etc before taking the snowmobile sleigh back. It's nice but the whole day is fab, the Santa is just one part of it and my kids actually forgot that was the reason they we there!

Apparently (we we told this by a Finnish elf), a local man built the Santa area as he loved the whole magical aspect of christmas and wanted to create this perfect place?! All the cabins are made from the local woods etc. no idea if true! By its just a forest with activities. Only thomsons we there on the day we went. Not even private guests.

Don't forget on the last night you have your gala meal. If staying in the holiday club, you have it at the tunturi. If at the kieppi, you have it at the snowflake. It's a Xmas dinner menu, crackers on the tables etc, dancing/ party games for the kids etc. lasts from say 7-9.30pm. Afterwards everyone congregates outside for fireworks. It's lovely and we all enjoyed it. Our gala meal was our best meal there, lots of choice, (and we ate out for every meal)!
