just back

just wanted to report on our first visit to finikounda.

we loved it as it is so relaxed but has a great greek liveliness at night - lots of locals sitting outside the cafes giving it a great authentic feel! it was pretty quiet there from a tourist sense- we have visited many places in greece during that half term week but have never been somewhere as quiet as this - dont know if its always like this or if its the " recession "

also wanted to recommend " mousses" villas which are just up the lachanada road - before the panorama resort.they are lovely individual cottage type dwellings each one ( there are 5 or 6 ) separate and private with stunning views over the village and bay.

it also seemed pretty cheap to us - we re vegetarian so meals would be cheaper than meat/ fish but we paid a total of between 17 and 22 euros for plenty to eat and 1/2 litre of local wine.

our only disappointment was not finding anywhere that rented out bicycles as we really like exploring the countryside.

great time though!

Glad you had a good time. Finikounda is always quiet this early in the season, as it relies heavily on Greek tourists. There is no half term week in Greece ;-)

Last year & this year are definitely quieter than normal, Kosmar used to be the only operator to go there & now they are gone it's slow to pick up again under Manos/Thomas Cook. The recession obviously had some effect too.

I'm really glad you enjoyed it though, if you're like me you enjoy it more when it's not busy, you wouldn't recognise it in July/August!

Glad you had a great time.

Can't wait until we can go earlier in the year - we are restricted to the summer hols (school/college for our kids). Even July and August tho' are not busy compared to the islands and we still love it in the Peloponnese at this time of year - you can still find some quieter beaches.

Really glad you enjoyed your holiday in Finikounda, and hope you will return.

I always feel priveleged to be able to holiday there and made so welcome.

True it does get busier in July/August but does not lose its authenticity.

Thanks to Thomas Cook/Manos us Brits are able to return year after year.

Lisa,

Half Term is a week at the end of May when schools in England are closed for spring bank holiday (Whitsun).

Its a chance to take the family on holiday without losing school time and of course its cooler then.
