Mosquito nets?

My family is going to Bijagua in the end of December. We are staying in a lodge in the forest, in bungalows. Do you think we will need to bring mosquito nets? The lodge does not provide them.

Thanks so much!

1. Re: Mosquito nets?

The biggest mosquito concern in Costa Rica is Dengue which is carried by day flying mosquitoes so you'll want DEET or Picaridin.

Sleeping under mosquito netting is more commonly used to combat malaria which is nearly non-existent in Costa Rica and limited to the southern Caribbean near Panama when it does flare up. Nets although not unheard of are quite uncommon.

If you just really hate mosquitoes the answer depends on which lodge...Celeste Mountain Lodge and Tenorio Lodge are both well constructed and have screens so are impervious to mosquitoes. Some of the more rustic choices may have some significant gaps and lack screens so if you want to be completely sure a net might be necessary.

If bugs in general are your enemies then yes, bring the net.
