Fast boat to Gili Meno

The info on gili-fastboat.com seems to suggest that there is an additional charge (100,000rp for a solo traveller) for getting to Gili Meno on the Bali-Gili T- Gili Meno Island Getaway Service. Is this right (info below)?

If so, does it make more sense to just get the boat to Gili T and get one of the Island Hopping boat to Gili Meno?

Hi DM, my head is spinning from all that.

I suggest you consider using GiliCat from Padang Bai as the actual sea crossing will be shorter from there.

When are you thinking of travelling? If it is in the next week or so just fly.

It will be cheaper and you are far more likely to arrive at your destination.

It really is not a good idea to use the boats at this time, they are small light duty vessels and the Lombok Straits crossing is across open water.

Looking at the sea at the present time is like looking into a washing machine on a deep rinse cycle. It is normally like this by the Christmas New Year period but this year it is a bit late. It might flatten out somewhat in the mornings but I would not count on it. The wind driven waves and quite reasonable swell is producing what might be called a 'confused sea'.

At the moment I would not go out there on a small boat if you paid me.

Frankly my greatest concern is that the price of fish is going to go up significantly because no one will be going fishing.

If the fastboat services are running it will possibly be most uncomfortable and quite dangerous. If you do take one ensure it is the shortest possible route and make sure you have immediate access to a lifejacket at all times.

Times for the island hopping boats are provided in the Wikitravel articles on the individual islands, this link goes to the main Gili island article, click through from there... http://wikitravel.org/en/Gili_Islands

We will be travelling from Bali to Gili Meno around March 12th. Can anyone tell me what the water conditions are these days for doing the crossing via fastboat?

Not sure about the 12th trying to check for you but my husband turned down a fishing trip for the 10th as waves will be too big. For the next few weeks at least I would definitely avoid using the fast boats. Just see the recent post on "near sinking" if you are not convinced. We are still having very strong winds.

I know from the brochures, two fast boats stop at Gili Meno: Bluebeach Express and Sea Marlin Cruise.

Sea Marlin base is Padangbai in Bali. They depart from Padangbai in early morning to Gili/Lombok, then return to Bali in afternoon.

While Bluebeach base is Gili. They depart from Gili/Lombok in early morning to Bali, then return to Gili in afternoon.

I've ever use most of another fast boats to Gili Trawangan / Lombok / Gili Air and can give you any advise about each. But I never used Bluebeach and Sea Marlin before. So I can't give any recommendation of both.

For Sea Marlin not direct to Meno, They use Public Boat agail to transfer Us to Gili Meno. Bluebeach Express is the only one that can drop us to Gili Meno Island

Just spent 12-28 Oct on Meno.

Water was fine, except the day that we went to Meno.

Too rough to get us ashore, so we ended up on Air and took the shuttle to Meno later that afternoon.

Sea Marlin out of Padang Bai at 0900 (700,000 Rp R/T) stops at T, then Meno, then Air and finally Lombok before returning to Bali around 1330.

Go, enjoy the island and its peace and serenity!!
