Restaurant reviews

Hi

Are there any reviews on Agios Georgios restaurants? If so, I haven't been able to find them!

We will be staying at the Costas Golden Beach Hotel in June on a B&B basis.

Any tips or advice for our first visit here and our first visit to Corfu will be appreciated. We are a young at heart couple of seniors.

Thanks.

It's the one in the north you are staying at. There is a very good website below which should help you. We stayed at the hotel next door in 2008. Lovely resort with beautiful scenery. Try and get out and about with a car, and visit all of the other lovely places on this coastline.

There are a number of tavernas along the very large bay. The website will tell you more and I would think is more up to date than me. You will have a great holiday and go to the Snack Shack for a great lunchtime snack.

One place has come to mind. Go up to Afionas one evening for the sunset and go to the "Mama's Kitchen" style taverna, on the left hand side of the road, sunset is on the right hand side. I can't remember the name, but you go and pick from the pots. Consistently excellent food and usually some unusual dishes, the octopus casserole was rather tasty. They only open on evenings I think and they were open in 2010, as we visited during our stay in Arillas.

Thanks mathsboffin, we've noted that info to take with us. However, are there any taverna recommendations for eats, in fact are there are many?

There are a number of tavernas serving food along the long beach road all overlooking the sea. Costas Golden Beach Hotel is in the middle of the resort close to Maria's ' SnackShack', as recommended by Mathsboffin. This little place is for great sandwiches (sit in or take out) or hot lunch snacks. Also try the Katoi Bar (200 metres 'left' from CGB Hotel)..

You must try to get up to Afionas at lunchtime where there are several tavernas with superb views and friendly service. The 2 tavernas 'Dionysos Restaurant' and 'Porto Timoni Restaurant' look down onto the turquoise waterof Agios Georgios bay and the Three Brothers (especially good for sunsets) has views northwards over the islands .

If you don't mind a good walk for an evening meal with a difference in very rustic specialist fish restaurant go to the rustic 'Fisherman's Cabin' which is 45 minutes walk to the south through the olive groves. Some regulars ask the owner to telephone for a boat taxi for the return trip !

I am sure you will enjoy your stay at Agios Georgios north.

June is a good month to visit before the main holidays start (although the resort never gets crowded anyway) and Costas Golden Beach Hotel is a nice friendly hotel in a great position for the beach.

This is just to say, we are 'of a certain age' and this is our first trip to CGB and to Corfu. We go on 20 June for 2 weeks so may bump into you in one of the recommended restaurants.

Am looking forward to it already.
