Family Holiday

We are staying for 10 days in the above location. Tips please on where to go and what to do.We are a family of 4 with a little 2 year old, need to keep everyone happy. Is the boats available from here, and where to visit on them, we have a car also but prefer the lazy way. Do we buy tickets on them or a weekly pass? Any good eating places child friendly. Also can we swim in the Lake? Any beach like areas?

Argegno is served by all of the boats that run the full length of the lake. Every day six normal (aka not 'fast') and six fast boats each way. In addition, there are a few boats towrds Como in the morning and returning from Como in the afternoon. Your primary destinations are: Bellagio (a pretty town, caters to tourists, more shops and cafes than most towns on the lkae), Varenna (Has the feel of an old italian fishing village), Menaggio (has a nice pedestrian only area and lake-front promenade. Menaggio seems to be town for local shopping Supermarket, doctors, schools etc.). The town of Como is good to visit. Lenno has a street market on Tuesday mornings. Tremezzo offers cafes and hotels but little else. You can walk to the village of Pescallo from Bellagio (maybe not with a two year old).

Go to at least one of the lakefront gardens or garden/villa combos that are open to the public.

I have heard that the drive from Argegno over to Lake Lugano is quite nice.

You can swim in the lake. You need to do your own research, as there have been reports of high levels of biological activity in the water.

The beaches that you are asking about are typically called 'lidos' and cost a few euro to enter. There may be one at Argegno but I don't remeber it. The towns of Lenno, Menaggio and Varenna have them. Other towns also have lidos.
