Gullet Itinerarys

we are planning a 7 day gullet trip in turkey probably 2 week in Sept. 2011. We would love to do some great snorkeling, swimming from the boat, beach bbq, and dining, drinking in local villages. Has anyone done this and can suggest a good itinerary leaving from an interesting port where we could spend 2 days with our cameras photographing life in that area. Also if you have had a nice experience on a particular gullet. I would love to know the name of the captain and boat and if possible how to contact him.

All advice appreciated about Turkey as well

Thanks

Most Blue Cruises begin and finish in the ports of Bodrum, Marmaris and Gocek/Fethiye. Because there is so much to see and do, people can come back year after year and still not cover all the territory to explore. Therefore, one section of the coastline is not necessarily more interesting or picturesque than the other. In September, the weather will be perfect and as school will be opening, you won't have many crowds.

When choosing a charter company, ensure that they are legitimate and registered and have a yacht charter license. Ask for a sample contract, and ensure that any extras are clearly indicated. You should also ask to see recent photos of the gulet and ask for references from those who have chartered the yacht in the past.

It's a great holiday - Good luck!

This website will give you some idea of the places you can visit on a Blue Cruise and, as scbc says, there is so much to see that you can only cover a small area on a 7-day cruise:

and a map to guide you:

We're new to this and planning a week-long gullet cruise in late August along the Turkish coast for 8-10. What are the "extras" you suggest we look into? Our family consists of 30-35 year-olds and adults in early 60's. One member of our group has a problem walking distances...are there sights that are relatively close to where you can "dock" or take a dingy to. Are there companies you suggest? I really do appreciate any suggestions.

There are indeed many sights which are easily accessible via dinghy, or your group member can choose to linger near the jetty, or walk as much as they feel comfortable with at their own pace.

Some suggestions - bring 'boat only' shoes if you wish to wear shoes on board as the trend is for all to go barefoot. Bring prescription medications, reading glasses, sunblock, hats, reading material, and casual clothes. The boat should (but double check) provide beach towels, snorkeling equipment, and fishing lines.

Double check the full board policy on the gulet, how much you'll be paying, and whether drinks are included. Ask the company specifically what is not included in the charter price. Depending on the boat and the ports, sometimes you can get them to throw in a free airport transfer.

It's a wonderful holiday and I'm sure you'll have a good time.

Hi Machergriff, Get a gulet out of Fethiye. The Gocek-Fethiye-Oludeniz area is perfect and there are lot of boats to choose from. If you get out abit there is plenty of marine life, and if you like, you can even get a gulet that specializes in diving cruises. I live in Fethiye and this area is loaded with things to do - you'll have a great time.
