7 hours lay over in Athens

We have 7 hours in Athens. I am wondering how we can make use of this little time. Is there transport near the airport that we could use to go somewhere/anywhere. I don't fancy sitting in another airport for 7 hours.

Hey and welcome Edna T:-) Just to note.. you've posted in Zakynthos isle forum;) Nonetheless, yes, there are ample transport options to get you to the center of the City from where you can walk around the pedestrianized zone for a while at Monasteraki, Plaka.. Visit the Akropolis.. possibly the Akropolis Museum?! You'll find all transport options at the airport's official site at www.aia.gr/ Bottom line, you've got 3 options.. a cab which runs 35E by day.. dedicated Express bus X95 for 5E (located right in front of the cab line) and the metro Blue Line for 8E (14E for 2 pax) that takes approx. 40 traffic-free minutes to get to Syntagma Square.. 1 more stop and you're at Monasteraki;-) The dedicated express bus takes about the same time.. traffic-dependent so can go either way.. straight to Syntagma Square:-)

Make sure you're allowing/covering for arrival and departure formalities.. if you have 7 'free' hours, means you're allotting at least a couple of hours for formalities with 'arrival' and departure' times.. so you actually have about a 9 hour time spread;-) Have fun.. and EnJOY!
