Criollo Festival in November

We're arriving in Santiago on 15 November 2011, were thinking of going to San Antonio for a day or two then on to Rancagua for a weekend visit to Sewell as tours only go then. But it looks as if the Criollo festival may be on during 18-19-20 November. Have searched the Web for hours, can't find it! Can anyone help, as if it's on we'll forget S.Antonio and go direct to Rancagua.?

San Antonio is a port city and won't offer much for a tourist. There are nicer places north of there. The Encuentro Internacional Criollo is on in November. The Fiesta Rancaguina is just finishing this weekend and there will probably be more information on the municipality website and other places after that.

Thank you, dancingmolly! We've "done" the north of Chile pretty thoroughly as far down as Valparaiso, in our last four holidays touring Chile early and late each year, so S.Antonio is a "fill-in" on our way southwards from Santiago before going to Rancagua for the weekend, as we were there mid-week last November to go to Sewell - but that's only at weekends. I'll take your advice and try the municipality website next week.

Thanks again.

Sheila.

If you do stop in San Antonio and want some decent fish, Logroño is fairly central. The owner is Spanish (or descendant) and there is a nice view of the bay.

As far as I can remember there is never much information about the Encuentro Criollo aside from the dates but we'll see. Have a look at hotels as there aren't that many.

These are the companies which do the Sewell tour in case you haven't booked yet. They might have info about the Encuentro Criollo too.

San Antonio, walk along Paseo Bellamar and then view the sea lions and pelicans on the rocks surrounding the fish market and swimming around the small pier. If it is open on a weekday, the empanada shop at the northwest corner of the fish market on the passageway to the small pier has the best seafood empanadas in Chile IMO. There is also a newly built mall and casino.

Drive across the Rio Maipo and into the 40s planned primarily old rich community of Rocas de Santo Domingo. This community was based on Palos Verdes, California. Admire especially some of the houses built near the beach. There is also a mysterious megalith called "Piedra del Sol" immediate north along the shore from the hill rising from the beach.

North of San Antonio, drive along the coast to Isla Negra and visit Pablo Neruda's house and grave on the shore. Take the inland toll road which connects all the coastal towns to get back to the main highway to get to Rancagua.

Oh dear! I still can't find out anything about the Criollo in November! I thought that now the month itself has come the information would be available! Having spent a couple of days wandering around Rancagua on our last holiday, we were planning to go there for a weekend in order to go to Sewell. Don't want to go earlier in that week if the Folk Festival and Criollo aren't on? Can anybody out there help me now, please???

I tried the www.rancagua.cl - they're advertising Carmen in the Medialuna Stadium (where the Criollo's held!) on 14th Nov. but that's all! It's very frustrating!!

Phone one of the hotels in Rancagua to and say you want to stay the dates of the Encuentro Internacional Criollo. Use its full name.
